Sorry, what are 'plain sights'?

Iron sights are the basic metal sights that all rifles come with. Usually a thin blade at the top at the end of the barrel and some form of notch at the end of the receiver.

By lining up the front blade with the rear notch (or circle - depending on the sights) at the rear of the rifle, it gives you the sight plain.

Basically, when the two are lined up on the target, you know the barrel is level and the bullet will go where you're pointing.

I was speaking in general terms, I realize that there are instances where people will mount optics on shotguns and pistols but it's not commonly done outside of competition. I have dozens of friends with hundreds of rifles, shotguns and pistols and just about every rifle is equipped with optics while none of the shotguns and pistols have anything but iron sights.

Fair enough amigo. Just trying to be pedantically clear. ;)

Just looking at that site, why do some triggers come down in the middle and some are nearer the edge? And can you have it altered if you have a favourite gun but you get much fatter or thinner?

Some have different triggers because they do different jobs - single action, double action, striker fired, etc.

Most of the triggers you see on Buds Guns are in the 'safe' position - ie. the pistol isn't cocked. With most single action / double action handguns, the trigger will move backwards when you cock the pistol. When you fire another round it will travel back but nowhere near as far as the 'safe' position. This is known as reset.

The circle around the trigger, where you put your finger, is known as the trigger guard. Most pistols are designed to be used by most humans and have a medium sized trigger and trigger guard.

I assume you're looking at revolvers with double action triggers that require a longer trigger pull. I don't think finger size is an issue for most people.

I think some/most of the anti-vest rounds are coated with something like Teflon to help them penetrate the layers of Kevlar.

Teflon coating along with pointy tips is a myth.

It's all down to density and hardness of the bullet.

Of course if one is being realistic focussing on the gun and bullet is a bit of a red herring.
Most assassinations or murders are carried out by people whose most lethal weapon is their fearlesness and willingness to kill. With in addition their anonymity and patience.

The gun they use (usally at point blank) is something supposedly unimpressive but effective. Yitzhack Rabin was killed by a cheap .22 pistol, Ronald Regan was almost killed by a little m1 carbine.

And the energy behind it - E=MC2 after all.

Tell that to JFK. ;)

JFK maybe about the only world leader killed by a sniper and that's because he had such ridiculously poor security.

Next you'll try to tell me that dipping my ammunition in garlic juice doesn't help me kill vampires.

Ronald Regan was almost killed by a little m1 carbine.

He was shot with a revolver, not a "little" military rifle.

Laughing out loud Laughing out loud

Density is very interesting when it comes to projectiles. The 30mm auto cannon on an Apache has depleted uranium rounds because they're about the most dense thing on Earth.

Yep, it was a .38 Special revolver. However, the M1's .30 Carbine round is roughly equal to a .44 Magnum round, ballistically speaking - not great for a battle rifle.

You're right according to Wikipedia it was a .22, so it was probably actually a bazooka!

And those are hippies you're shooting DaButt I don't think the garlic makes much diference, but maybe you should dip them in soap first?

nb most people don't wear bullet proof vests. Heavy uncomfortable, even police officers frequently avoid the bulk. If you're a politician it looks like you don't trust the electorate.

Some people have hugely expensive designer bullet proof vests disguised as hoodies or waist coats. But they tend to look stoopid.

I rarely see a cop in the U.S. who isn't wearing one. I imagine the president wears one most of the times he's in public.

Not so sure, there was a big fuss about Dubya wearing a lumpy shirt in an interview. And was he wearing a bullet proof vest?

nb did you know in the 1960s a South Africa PM was stabbed to death?

Violence in South Africa? Really? Eh?

I'd bet my paycheck that the suits and overcoats worn by recent presidents were augmented in some way. It only makes sense.

Skyline. This alien-invasion film got a real critical mauling when it was released but I quite enjoyed it. Yes, it's derivative, with pedestrian plotting and wafer-thin characters, but for a micro-budget film the effects are great, the aliens pretty nifty, and some of the set-pieces well mounted. I've seen far worse bigger budget films.
