I've just seen... Page 229

Arrietty - Lovely animation. Not sure what I made of it as a whole. Better than Ponyo. Needs another watch. It is very lean though at the end I wanted to see more.

'The Brothers Grimm' which is fine if you love fairy tales and have drunk too much wine.

The Adjustment Bureau. Slight but enjoyable, with a sweet romance at the heart of it. I'd have liked to see them ramp up the drama and tension a bit more, but still a worthwhile Philip K Dick adaptation.

Is it just the Borrowers under a different name?

If you wanted more and can face another viewing it must certainly be better than Ponyo, one of the more interminable Ghibli offerings (though not as bad as Pom Poko which I recall lasted weeks).

Pom Poko is very funny. But its more on the 'Mad Head' Ghibli side along with GO Panda! Go!

Whats your point?

Whats your point?

Just wondered if it's the same story.

I dunno never seen Borrowers.

This is about little people living with some pathetic kid with a dicky heart.

Not seen it yet, but Arriety is the name of the heroine in the Borrowers. Though if Tales from Earthsea is an example of Ghibli's fidelity to source material any resemblance may only be tangental.

Earthsea is a good un. All of Ghibli is pretty great, not so fussed on Ponyo though.

Ahhh! Well then yes it's similar to Borrowers then lol :D

The Artist. It's quite good, but how it's even shortlisted for awards, never mind winning them, is beyond me.

Earthsea was a bit of mash-up of the novels; mind you Ursula Le Guin's books have not aged well, so reverence was not called for, but to me it just did not work. One of my least favourites, not as good even as Ponyo, which for all its faults did have heart.

As mentioned before, for me, Pom Poko outstayed its welcome.

But Kiki, Spirited, Monaoake, Porco, Howl, Nausica, Laputa, Totoro and Fireflies are all all top drawer.

Is that the one with no colour?

Hanna. Pleasingly odd thriller about a teenage assassin out to avenge her mother's murder. As an added bonus Tom Hollander pops up as a nasty German shit with bleached blond hair.

A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. The first third is brilliant, a masterclass in dark and creepy, then it all goes spectacularly off the rails.
