The Radio 4 Commissioning Round Page 3

G'luck to Dolly and Voley. Not sure if Mark's saying he's in or not, but if he is, good luck also. I wonder how many things they commission at each round?

Thanks Stan et al - and good skills Dolly. I'm not daring to get my hopes up, but delighted it'll at least be considered. No doubt there will be quite a few prodcos pitching, and they will be up presumably up against ideas from internal sources. But it's a start.

And I hope I don't sound like I'm showing off by reporting some sort of progress here. But when others have done the same in the past I've found it inspiring and it's helped me to keep going when I've felt despondent (as I may well do again in a few weeks time!).

I wouldn't have thought it to be showing off. It's nice to hear that some people are having success. Best of luck DrVole, Dolly and if you're in the mix Mark too.
:)

Good luck all. I look forward to hearing how you get on. I had a commission with The Verb but nothing came of it in the end.

It can be a long journey from commissioning round to broadcast. A friend who got a commission for the R4 afternoon play slot about 6 months ago has just been told hers is going ahead and will be recorded 'sometime in the next few months.'

I have been advised that my next project will be put forward in March so it fits in with the six month info earlier.

Good to hear of people doing well, gives me hope. :)

Cheers everyone. :)

I'm not holding my breath, but it's nice to know that some people like my script.

Best of luck to everyone up for the next round of radio commissioning. :)

Er, yes. Apparently mine is going forward to R4 tomorrow.

Blimey.

Good luck, all.
I'm awaiting a descision on an option this week - gut churning stuff.
Who was it who said " The dissapointment I can live with, it's the hope I can't stand"

Yes good luck to us all.

Hang on....aren't we all in competition with each other then....? :O

It might have been Woody Allen quoting Emily Dickson - Hope is the feathered thing. Allen famously not liking birds.

Unless they're his adoptive daughter.

It's John Cleese's character, Mr Stimpson, in Clockwise (whilst dressed as a monk, sitting at the side of a B road). ;)

(Clockwise was written by Michael Frayn.)

Didn't he say "It's not the despair I can't stand - it's the hope".

Well yes, but I assumed Lazzard was either slightly misquoting or paraphrasing the original quote. I don't think there is a similar line attributable to anyone else.

(Incidentally, Clockwise is an excellent farce. It may have been rather better realised on film, but it's still a cracking little British comedy.)

Sorry about mashing up the quote.Errr

And yes, 'Clockwise' was quite good fun.
In my darker moments I wonder if Cleese was the best choice for the job - didn't quite believe his 'serious' bits.
