British Comedy Guide

Comedy Writing Weekend - Paul B. Davies

Far be it from me to plug my close rival but when I started out in comedy in the 80s this guy did more than anyone to encourage and push me. I've never been to his classes but he's a funny guy with great credits and he taught me loads when I began writing.

"Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October 2009

Lectures about writing are like poems about swimming: they may be inspiring but they don't improve your technique. The only way to learn how to write is by writing.

This course isn't fatal but it is hard work. Over the weekend you'll participate in intensive, practical exercises that are designed to develop the basic skills you need to make your material funny in any format or medium you're writing for: film, television, radio, theatre, stand-up, or print.

Remember PBD from vintage Radio 4 comedy! A real talent.

This is an excelent course (as is Anorak's). It is hard work but you will get alot out of it.

The Red Room, Shaftesbury Avenue? Isn't that a strip club? Or am I confusing it with one of the venues in Wardour Street?
Not that I get to be in London often, mind.
