Home Time

First episode of this new comedy drama's just been on BBC Two.

Did anyone see it? Hasn't been publicised that I've seen, so probably not many...

Anyway. Mm, was ok. Story seems interesting enough. Nothing to laugh at though. A bit dull on that front.

I didn't like it, and I doubt I'll watch it again. That whole bit with her walking down the street and everyone saying hello was terrible.

Just watched the first episode of Home Time. What did everyone else think? Think it's definitely a comedy that needs time to settle into a rhythm. Best characters were the business woman and of course the DJ (woman from Pulling, whose name I cannot remember). Felt a bit odd to assume that everyone from the town knew what happened to this one person. That was strange to me. Wasn't even like the main character was just self centred and thought that people were looking at her. Everyone was looking and pointing at her. I'm very curious to see how her character develops because I really want to like this show; I think it's a really good premise for the show. However, I didn't like the mum character at all and I didn't see the point of the replacement friend being there (again, her name escapes me, but she is a really funny actress and should have been given more to do other than being a spare part).

I kind of liked it. I really wasn't impressed for about the first third, but it seemed like it was building as it went along, and now all the characters have been introduced, it might click into gear. I'll tune in next week. It definitely seemed to be finding its legs over the last ten minutes, with the introduction of her circle of friends.

Gemma Arrowsmith. I think her first name is Gemma, maybe. From live duo Mould And Arrowsmith. I've had a quick chat with her once. Then a bit of a longer one with the quite drunk Mould.

Well she'd been drafted in to replace her, but as soon as she came back they dumped her.
Thought that bit was quite funny.

There were bits I liked; particularly the bits with the old playlist and the old 1990s dress attire. But I'm assuming that's not gonna be the main joke all the way through, because as much as I like the going back in time kind of idea, I think there's a lot more to come from the main character. She seems too nice at the moment. Strange that the main character didn't really have much to talk about, considering she'd been living this different type of lifestyle for years, and yet these other characters had more dialogue and more depth to them; they were much more interesting.

I did do a lol when her dressing gown fell off the door and revealed a hand painted Brian from East 17. :)

Yes, I did enjoy his big, stupid face. :D

I think the dad as well, was just a waste of a character. Now that I think about it, I'm actually editing the script in my head. He was just there but he wasn't doing much. I'm gonna stick with it, just because I want to like it.

I really enjoyed this. I like how it managed to stay to the drama without trying too hard with the comedy. This means it's not the funniest show around but for the premise I thought it worked. The only time it went a bit ridiculous was when she was walking down the street and everyone knew her.

Also, the woman who plays Gaynor has to be one of the sexiest comedy actresses ever.

Was this a new sit-com or transferred from BBC Three?
Hard to judge from a single episode but not too sure where this is going as the very good central idea of returning to the provinces after over a decade in that there London seems to wear thin after 25 minutes, which is a bit like the same scenario in real life.
The lead character seems like a right drip and although she does melancholic very well there wasn't a lot of melancholic humour.
Most of the comedy in the first episode stemmed from a joke about putting on her 90s teenage wardrobe.
Like a couple of other posters have mentioned it seemed likeable, I am Intrigued enough to watch it again and on the bright side it features one of Sharon Horgans' flatmates from Pulling (which it is in danger of apeing).

It was a new comedy drama.

I've got mixed feelings about it. It was definitely different from a lot of new comedy, and there is clearly a storyline that will play through the series. I'm sure the boyfriend will turn up at some point to give her a dilemma.

It was quite dark, I'm not sure the balance between comedy and drama worked in that episode. But there were some funny moments in it and it kept me interested enough to watch it again.

However, once it finished all I could think about is 'why did they get rid of Pulling?' The reasoning was because they wanted to target a younger audience. Well this is only slightly younger and even has one of the same actresses. It feels like this has been chosen ahead of a new series of Pulling as you probably couldn't have both.

I would say it's a sitcom - it even says it on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mx9yr

That's why I couldn't find this thread.
;)

Surely Pulling should have been moved to BBC Two, as it is aimed more at their type of audience? Also it is female led which is what the BBC are after. However, I was really pleased Home Time got commissioned, I think it will really pick up pace now they have got the exposition episode out of the way.

I'm relieved it wasn't disappointing. At the moment the BBC are doing quite a few new sitcoms but not many are getting decent ratings or a 2nd series, so I'm hoping these are good so that they don't get discouraged.
