Oh, no! They're singing - FF. Page 2

Overall the songs aren't as funny, but as a whole I think the second series is better than the first.

True. Except for the first couple of episodes - they did nothing for me.

I think the second half of the season 2 is fotc at their best.

Hear hear! Or should I say "ear ear"?

I probably shouldn't...

Yeah, you probably shouldn't.

I was going to write a sitcom about a musician and a nun, which would lend itself nicely to musical pieces. But at the end of the day, would I watch it myself? Probably not.

Ooh! I like the sound of that.

He's a drugged-up, misogynistic, has-been rock star forced to enter a rehab clinic. She's a naïve, innocent, God-fearing nun. Together they're... "Kicking The Habit!"

(Okay, okay! I'm getting my coat! Stop hitting me!)

You guys with your FOTC-season-2-is-better shit! The first half of the first season has most of the best episodes (and songs) for me. Season 2 is still good, though, and includes that wonderful song about ex-girlfriends.

Back on the general topic, songs are good if they are good and bad if they are included just because they thought it was a good concept to have a song or songs.

The Simpsons has great episodes with songs and some not so good. A Streetcar Named Marge and Marge vs the Monorail are two of the best.

Wow, Badge I agree with you...I liked Season 1 FOTC the most, but Season 2 has the songs Friends, Carol Brown and Sugar Lumps.

South Park has some of the most memorable comedy songs, for me at least! 'Mr Hanky', 'Kyle's mum's a big fat bitch', 'I'm Super' - Big Gay Al and many more...
I personally think FOTC series 1 was the strongest, both for comedy and songs but that's not to say the second series didn't have it's moments. 'I've got hurt feelings' and 'Too many dicks...' were catchy and I'm always left thinking there music is much better than alot of the music you get these days (to sound like a complete and utter old timer!).

Good comedy songs are good, and bad ones are bad. The problem is, with the bad ones, you have to endure several minutes of them. Or worst still, they get in the charts, and you have to endure them over and over again.

Yes, South Park is very good at it. Especially the movie. Good example :)

I enjoyed FOTC Series 1 as a whole better because they had the songs they've been polishing for ages. But the dialogue in series 2 is great, which is why I'd like to see more of that and less songs!

PS. What does the "FF" in the thread title mean?

I opened the thread expecting lesbian action. Talk about disappointed...

OK, my original point.

Does anyone write songs in their own sitcom or even whole musical episodes? And even though we've seen examples of where it does and doesn't work. Do you think you'd include it yourself?

I wrote a comedy song for a short film I was making with a friend, but was so ashamed by how bad it was, I kept it to myself. He has no idea I even attempted to write a song. The film works so much better without it, so I'm glad.

I wrote a quick song scene to introduce a character in my last sitcom script. I like the idea of self-penned songs (parodies of girl singer-songwriter music, basically) being a regular feature for this particular character, but I wouldn't be mortified to have to cut it.
