Favourite Blackadder 'scene' Page 2

Oh, where to start, where to stop!

This time for a change I will not mention the "my nosey is so tiny that I sometimes think the pixies gave it to me". I'll mention instead its sister-scene from Series II, where Rowan Atkinson had a chance to watch with a dead pan face how the two idiots are giggling over the turnip which look like a thingie.
Of course, the table scene with two Lord and Lady White Adders is absolute delight.

From Series III, Sense and Senility, the actors teaching the prince how to speak before public.
Blackadder: "Or, here are my genitals, please kick them".

From Series IV:
Apart from the very last scene obviously, I guess it would be the court scene in Corporal Punishment or some of the more romantic scenes in General Hospital.

There's a bit in series 1, I can't remember it exactly.

The King has been accidentally killed by Edmund, and Brian blessed says something like "And we all know who did this dreadful deed don't we?"
At which point Edmund nods his head slowly & guiltily.
"Henry Tudor!"
And then he nods much more vigorously with a silly grin.
( You had to have been there! )

There were so many brilliant bits in the first series, I think it's very underrated.

The Spanish enphanta scenes with Miriam Margoyles & Jim Broadbent are terrific as well.

Jim Broadbent in 'The Queen Of Spain's Beard'. :)

And Frank Finlay as The Witchsmeller Pursuivant. :)

I loved the first Blackadder, it had opulent, atmospheric sets and big, brash Brian Blessed. It was a feast for the eyes. Other series were done on a tight budget / small set and I think they lacked the visual impact.

Plus Rowan's insipid Edmund, and Peter Cook. What more could you want?

"You have a woman's hands!"

Seconded.

Tom Baker was magnificent as Rum.
"You have a woman's skin my Lord! I'll wager it ne'er felt the lash of a cat, been rubbed with salt, then flayed off by a pirate chief to make fine stockings for his best cabin boy!"

Laughing out loud

Unfortunately the first Blackadder wasn't really funny, though. They'd got the character completely wrong and the series very nearly sunk.

I like it when Blackadder and George swap clothing and Stephen Fry beats George up for being a bad servant.

-Yes, M'lud
-(whack)I'm a Duke not a lord!!

I broke my DVD player forever rewinding that scene where George gets kicked over and breaks the table. That whole episode is great. "When a man soils a Wellington, he puts his foot in it"

Then why does my vote also go to the Spanish infanta scene? Eh? Explain that, Henman! "My love my love!"

I'd love to have seen the later Blackadder series made with the same budget for sets, props, costume etc. It seems they totally cut back on the budget which is a shame.

ps loved the Spanish Infanta scene too.

The 1st series was a completely different show to the following series and to some extent shouldn't have to bear comparison. Overall, it wasn't a brilliant series, but it was still good. I certainly remember watching it and thinking it was great compared with a lot of stuff that was on at the time. They hadn't got the character of Blackadder "wrong", it was just a completely different character, that's all.

I am currently watching these with my oldest son and he still has a hard time seeing Mr. Bean being sexy in Series 2. That said, his favourite moment is when George is in drag in series 4 and Melchett falls in love with him.

"Tally ho, my fine saucy young trollop! Trip along here with all your cash and some naughty night attire, and you'll be staring at my bedroom ceiling from now until Christmas, you lucky tart! Yours, with the deepest respect etc. Signed, George".

P.S. Woof, woof!

Unfortunately the first Blackadder wasn't really funny, though.

It wasn't on the same plain as any of the 3 series that followed, but still very good and vastly underrated actually.

Tom Baker in the boat does for me as well.

Also when Blackadder is listening to Melchett's battle review and places a sod of earth on the desk to represent the amount of land taken on the western front - the scale is 1:1.

What an evil thread Laughing out loud TOO many to mention - but off the top of my head I love the Series 2 episode "Money" - Ronald Lacey's turn as the perverted Bishop of Bath and Wells is just a classic Laughing out loud

"Drugged! By God"
"No by Baldrick actually, but the effect is much the same.."

The one that Stotty (sorry Matthew, a bit over familiar there) mentioned where Blackadder's puritanical Aunt says her husband Nathanial "sits on a spike and I sit on Nathanial because two spikes would be a luxury"

Apologies if that's not exactly right, but you get the drift.

Off the top of my head, the courtroom scene where Blackadder is being tried for shooting speckles the pigeon is really great.
