Sometimes justice has to wear stretch pants.
You know the Polish and Dutch cavalry were quite effective. Not charging tanks obviously but ambushing behind enemy lines etc.

Yea I wish I would have known more but he would get depressed when thinking about it. He only told a very few stories.
One of the only stories was when the Dutch Army was at the end of its ropes and his commanding officer ordered him and the rest to dispose of their uniforms and try to help the resistance as civilians.
He told me he wrapped his uniform in a rock and tossed it into a river. While walking down a road a German car stopped him and asked if he needed a ride. He told them he was fine but the Higher ranking officer came down to speak with him. This he whispered to my Grandfather: "If I were you I'd remove those military issued boots if I were you". He said nothing else but got into his vehicle with the rest of his men and drove off.
He had a few other stories but most about how much he enjoyed the army before the invasion and a few bits about being in some sort of resistance stuff during the occupancy.
Yeh the Dutch had a rough time of it. They fought as long as they could. And the resistance were let down by an idiot radio operator in the UK who ignored all the "I have a gun to my head ignore me" transmissions from captured Dutch resisters.
Well, 70 years today since we declared.

Quote: Chappers @ September 2 2009, 3:58 PM BSTI'm trying to write it all up. I started at 1 september but I've gone back to 31 December 1938. I seem to remember reading some of it before and even then there were threats by the IRA as well.
You could start at Christmas! A nice happy time to contrast with the impending war and depressing shizz they didn't know was around the corner.
Although I suppose there is quite a gap between the two...

I think they had a fair idea for a while although maybe not Christmas though. The diary starts on New Year's Eve.

how f**king true. This should be in the Oxford book of lighthearted war quotations.
Dunno though, I'd probably watch a movie that had "Sometimes justice has to wear stretch pants..." as its tag-line.

It would probably star Will Ferrell.
