Those lettuces have 'bolted'. This means they are going to try to send up flowers and set seed.

In other words, you've left them in too long and they've been stimulated into this extra growth by the hot, wet weather.

Cheeky buggers.
Bloody lettuces... *grumble*

Can't be sure without pics, but pumpkins/squash/courgettes are prone to mildew because of the 'bumps' on the leaves. Always water at the base of the plant and try not to get any water on the leaves. Obviously you can't do anything about the rain :/

Pumpkins need LOADS of water and a weekly feed of tomato fertiliser.

TB, do you still want those photos of my plums?

Yes, please. You old tease!

What if my lettuces were actually the beginnings of a fairytale beanstalk?

That sounds ACE....but they won't grow much taller :'(

I've dug them up now so they definitely won't. :(

Unless I go out tomorrow and find them BACK AGAIN. :O

I let my lettuce go to seed like that one year and several grew back again the following year.

I wish I'd left it in, to see if it would at least grow as tall as me. That would have been cool.

Have had a very nice tomato harvest. Made some sauce now thinking of making juice for bloody marys!

Mine grew to about 4 feet, so you would have been disappointed unless you are a midget.

Well I am only 5'4".

My pepper plant is just about to flower. Cheers TB.

I've also got some strawberries popping up again. A consolation for the hot weather.
