Sitcom Trials - Stage Directions

Hi. How is everyone approaching their scripts for the sitcom trials? Is direction and action as important as dialogue and story? or is that the job of the directors?

Action, as far as I'm aware, is always as important as the dialogue. Even in radio and other erm, places.

Don't bother with direction, unless you think it is absolutely necessary.

Think about everything as much as you possibly can. Writers imagine things after all.

Anything that's important has to be indicated - like any other script.

I might just adapt a radio sitcom anyway, with minimal stage directions.

I'm going to do something using mime and signing.

Mine's called Empty Stage.

12 minutes, no actors, no props, no dialogue.
The cliffhanger will be that someone coughs.
Wow! Who coughed?

*** INTERMISSION ****

Then the 2 minute payoff reveals to us that it was the stage sweeper who coughed.
He explains to the audience that he got the job after he told a corny joke and someone said "You should be on stage... sweeping it."

Now, be honest. Could this work?

Have you been drinking Mikey?

You had to ask a writer that?

Well and truly bladdered. (HIC!)
And on Saturday night, I like to push the boat out a bit!

PERSON IN BACKGROUND: "Don't you dare! The owner of that boating lake says you're on your last warning!"

:P
