Wouldn't everything be more popular if weaker scenes were cut out?
Worst Only Fools episode. Page 7
In some cases there wouldn't be anything left if you cut out the unfunny bits.
Quote: aquasplash3 @ December 2 2012, 10:53 PM GMTI'm sure those final 3 episodes would have had a better reception had they been shorter and had the crappy scenes edited out.
I got the feeling extraneous scenes were left in when they decided to hold some back for the following Christmas. The 1996 episodes were just an hour and, interestingly, if you read the script for the cut scenes from those we can see that those scenes were very dull and unfunny, such as one when Del and Rodney return to the flat with news that they are now millionaires.
The worst episode is A Royal Flush.

I don't think the BBC did any favours to this Christmas special, when it was released on DVD and cut 22mins from the original episode. Some of those scenes that were removed were particularly amusing IMO. I personally think 'A Royal Flush' is an underrated episode.
I think the main problem with that episode was just how long it dragged on for. Cutting 22 minutes seems like a very sensible thing to do.

The only thing that I found that dragged on was the scene at Sid's cafe with Rodney & Lady Victoria, which went on far too long,
Look it's Royal Flush, it is embarrassing to watch. It makes me squirm every time I see it.
I found even that scene perfectly ok. I don't know why so many here don't like this episode. The thing that irritates me is the lack of laugh track...and Junie is a bit more cartoonish than in the other episode she appeared in. As if it wasn't the same person.
I just don't find it works. Del is just too ignorant in it, too cartoonish. OFAH's great strehgth was giving its characters depth and inner lives, Del is so off kilter in this one that he is unlikeable. I just thought it was crass in its use of class and felt like it belonged to another show altogether.
Yeah, it's just an hour of Del being unbelievably cringe-worthy. Not even funny, just a twat.

In the Rock N Roll episode Del uses Rodney's membership in a band (and hopes and dreams) to make a bit of money. That wasn't very likeable either. So it's not that atypical.
And I think there are many funny moments in RF which is more I'd say about Sleepless In Peckham or Fatal Extraction or even Heroes & Villains (which isn't a very funny episode apart from the Batman & Robin scene if you ask me).

No that epiosde was executed well, he is a con man, but in Royal Flush he just came across as crass and idiotic, it was too cringy. I agree about Fatal Extraction, I'm not keen on that one, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as Royal Flush.
I also don't like The Miracle of Peckham.

It starts well with Rodney suffering from a hangover and the "mystery of the lost trumpet".
