That's no Argument is it.

Yes I trust greed, only the most dangerous fanatical politicians are honest.
Yes but do you think he's ever actually, I dunno do something?
Other than eating pies and crying to his ghost writer.
Quote: Griff @ August 13 2009, 9:37 PM BSTAgreed. Shock horror, people running the country make more money than the rest of us. Whoopee doo.
I think that is the point though, that MPs actually get a pretty good renumeration package. It is just that other senior people, not just the private, but also in the public, sectors, are now on such ludicrously inflated salaries, that MP wages seem paltry by comparison. Time was that to make that sort of money you REALLY had to have DONE something - not just have jumped on the corporate gravy train and f**ked things up.

Well it does give us some context and objectivity.

Actually they dont.

To run the complex integrated public services we all seem to want, well frankly that deserves a matching salary.

Whereas crooks like Marcos, Caecescu, Mugabe, Suharto etc. did a fantastic job of running their countries.
In any case I am struggling to think of fanatical politician who did not end up totally corrupt. In fact it is often once they become corrupted that most of the damage is done.
Quote: Griff @ August 13 2009, 9:30 PM BSTI wish these arsehole journalists would shut the f**k up about expenses now. It's a miserable witch hunt. I don't give a shit how much MPs spend on their garden, I want to know what they're doing about ID cards and foreign wars and Horne and Corden.
You'll like this from Stephen Fry then, Griff! Refreshing.

Galloway?
Galloway is barely human, let alone a politician!

Perhaps, but paying more money does necessarily result in getting more conscientious and competent people.
This argument really comes back to the discredited economic idea that no-one ever does anything for any reason other than personal gain.

I seem to recall it was a cough medicine in my youth. Either that or we're talking about George, the apologist for genocidal Saddam Hussein, and Celebrity Big Brother cat.
