Somalian pirates- too obvious?

Somalian pirates were hot news recently. I remember a few sketches based on this topic, but was there anything more substantial, or is there room for more?
I was thinking it might be fun to write something following these pirates as they learnt the ropes, before they graduated to hi-jacking supertankers. Maybe they would start off with the swashbuckling capture of pedalos and the like.

Southpark did an episode where Cartman and a few kids go there to start a pirate posse. Was brilliantly funny.

Well the subjects a bit old, but if you can think of a fresh twist then go for it.

Maybe it's where Gordon Brown's doing his voluntary work this summer?

you could replace the words to 'Drunken Sailor' with something relevant and amusing.

if you like.

Yes, it's tricky when a subject has just become old news. Nothing's more unfashionable than last year's fashion.

Perhaps when it's older still, it might be viable. I'm less interested in the topical angle, and more interested in the aspirations of wannabe pirates embarking on their career, and the conflict between their stated motivation, which seems to be that they think they are freedom fighters rebelling against oppressors, and our own view of them. Perhaps it should be 'traditional' pirates instead, to avoid the 'old news' syndrome.

maybe you could bring the subject back to life with a good script with a sarky twist, maybe the main character being a news reader
