Superbad had something of the same spirit of the (good) 80s teen comedies about it. A very good film that.

I agree. That is a very good film. I have a bit of a soft spot for the Judd Apathow style of film. Juvenile without being total shit is hard to pull off.
And you, you are McLovin'! Ha!
Loooove Superbad. Great film.
Quote: Matthew Stott @ August 7 2009, 1:32 PM BST-they had a ton of cracking films for anyone growing up during that decade. I don't think you can beat that decade for that type of flick. Ghostbusters, Back To The Future, Goonies, Ferris Bueller, Gremlins, Short Circuit, Police Academy, Arnies films. Brilliant.
Definitely.
It's the decade I have the most affection for by miles.

And it was the last full decade of glorious Tory rule. *salutes*

Funny, I remember it being total shit.
Quote: Tim Walker @ August 7 2009, 1:16 PM BSTTrue to some extent. But at least he never followed the convention of bad 80s comedy films where, whenever a Chinese/Japanese person appeared, it would be accompanied by the sound of a "comedy" gong. (What were they thinking?)
I haven't seen it in ages, so not sure. But doesn't that happen in 16 Candles?
Quote: Renegade Carpark @ August 6 2009, 11:35 PM BSTJohn Hughes put together some of the best films of the 80's and I'm sad he's gone.
His films also had some of the best quotes ever -
One of my favourites is in Some Kind of Wonderful:
"Where's the f**kin' money, Keith!?", shouted by the hero's dad.
Which is a bit OTT for a PG movie.
I may have to put a Hughes movie into this evening's DVD viewing in tribute.

Oh. Yeah. Shit.
*bows*
Apologies please. So solly.
*bangs comedy gong*
Who wants a fight today?
Don't forget in film and television land, whenever an Oriental is introduced, you have to have that 'duner-duner-duner-dun-dun-dun' music, usually played on a xylaphone.
Much in the same way Britain is always represented by a shot of Big Ben in the fog and the first few bars of Rule Brittania.
Quote: Curt @ August 6 2009, 10:23 PM BSTMuch props to a good director.
But...doesn't anyone else think he looks a bit like Ricky Gervais?
Reminds me of Robert Zemeckis.
Oh f**k! He's dead?!
He made so many of my favourite comedy films
'Planes, Trains and Automobiles', 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and 'The Breakfast Club' are all films that we won't see the like of again. I'm going to have to dust them off over the weekend and cry.
