Never watched Footloose - too much Bacon for my liking

I haven't seen Babe for the same reason.

Now Babe is good. And the song and dance in it is fab.

Donnie Darko is a great lost 80s epic

In one sense I agree, but in another it could never have been the same film if it had actually been made in the 1980s. The writer-director's perspective of his 80s childhood was very key to the success of it. It is a fantasy film set in the 1980s, not a film about the 1980s. (In a similar way that No Country For Old Men is set in a "remembered"/stylistic 1980.) However, I (think) I get what you mean. :)

Too a certain extent the emphasis style and humour are pure John Hughes, the sinister stuff is expertly grafted on.

Bueller!

Gutted! Childhood hero, not that I knew his name at the time.

The Breakfast Club is one of my favourite films. I love it.

I enjoyed his teen movies. I watched "The Breakfast Club" in college with friends. It was social, demented and sad, but social ;)

Babe is stinking old toss of the lowest order.

It's quite nice in a sandwich though.

Wow! Just heard. I am truly sad to hear this. I grew up on his movies. I learned my first good curse words from his films.

It's very sad. What's nice from reading the responses so far on this thread is that everyone seems to have enjoyed at least one of his films.

Yeah, I have lots of friends who hate Breakfast Club, but loved Ferris. I can remember watching his movies and feeling very sophisticated because they were a little old for me.

Mind you he had a bit of a reputation for being a racist. No positive WASP characters in any of his films and loads of comedy Asians.

He wasn't perfect.

Interesting point.
