Nice Surprise - What Now? Page 2

Congrats, bigfella.

As people have said, give them a call, have a chat - they've invited you to do so. Don't be surprised though if during August they won't be in the office. Comedy production land becomes deserted at this time of year. :)

Thanks for the comments guys.

They aren't quite clammering for my signature yet...but it's nice to hear something postive.

The good thing is this was the first thing I wrote comedy wise and I feel my writing has improved since then.

Dan the tweats are actually major re-writes and a change in direction of the idea.

But what I want to say was I actually sent this off in October or November of last year....so there is hope outthere.

If nothing else I have a contact who is happy to read my other stuff!

I'd give it a go. At least someone out there is suggesting stuff, so if you show you're willing to work to their suggestions, it may prove beneficial to both of you!

As you say, the contact is probably more important than the actual script at this point!

Major re-writes always seem like major re-writes at first. Usually they aren't.

If someone like a mango they don't want it turned into a lemon.

Agreed. :)

Best of luck with it all Bigfella.

Yeah, but it picks back up the start of September doesn't it? Doesn't it, Tim?! Tell me it does! Ahhhh! :S

Usually. Though some need to take September off to get over having been in Edinburgh in August! (Personally, I'm waiting from a certain person to finish filming in the US at the moment.)

Next round of commissioning in October! Here we go again! :S

I'd done 50,000 words of my book but there are still no takers - although my agent has only sent it to 10 publishing companies so far. She is hearing the same story - bad time for publishing, also I'm a man. Woman are in into weight loss - so the story has to be a woman, which is a bugger cos I didn't have a sex change.

Don't take such drastic actions.

Have you considered a pseudonym?

What was the upshot?

On Holiday :(

Have emailed a short thank you, because I got her email the 2nd day after I went away so I didn't want it to look like I wasn't getting back.

Suggested a chat when she gets back.

In mean time I'll look at making some changes to the script - so after our chat I can send her something back quicker.

Good luck, bigfella.

Good luck, bigfella.

Thank you. :) :)

Not getting hopes up.

But it does give you the desire to keep going.

Oh!!!!

Just as I type an email!

She would like to read another draft.

The major comment was that a lot of the characters sounded the same. And I know that is very true - I read it and I can see it.

The only problem is, I'm not sure how to do correct it.

How do I give characters a different voice? Any ideas clever people.

Give each character a different beat/rhythm to their voice. Do they speak fast or slow? Is there pain in there voice or are they a happy soul? Make one more angry or reactionary, whilst others timid and quite. Are they from different parts of the country, give one of em a slight ascent.

I was reading 'how to be a sitcom writer' last night, so this is on my mind atm, as well.
