Books that disappoint Page 9

I am. Doesn't mean I have to like a 400 year-old load of toss like Shakespeare.

Ageist!

I've just finished reading Stephen Fry's 1991 debut novel The Liar.

It hasn't got any plot really. It looks like it's just a compilation of the memoirs of his Uni years, (falling in love with a fellow student a few years his junior, wanking, anal sex, group wanking games i.e. they all ejaculate over a biscuit and the last one to come has to eat it, etc) disguised as a novel.

Then, for no apparent reason, for the final 100 pages, it suddenly turns into a murder/mystery/espionage novel, where all the thngs that have happened up until now ae completely forgotten about with no payoffs.

I admire Mr Fry, but it didn't float my boat. I'm not taking about the homosexual references, of course. I mean the novel as a whole was a struggle to get through, where I felt the desire to abandon it altogether half way through.

That's my favourite Fry novel!

I suppose it does have quite a weird structure, but I loved it.

Have a digestive.

Aye, can't accuse of Stephen Fry of writing crap. Although his documentary show on the printing press was trite and dull.

Have a digestive.

Thank you, I will.

Stephen Fry's bloody over-rated. In all forms.

Yeah he's thick, boring and unfunny...

And short!

Well, now you come to mention it...

He is fat. Has floppy hair. A weird face that looks like it's pressed against a pane of glass. And he's always f**king banging on about mental illness like he invented being a f**king loon-bag. Other than that, I don't mind him. :)

He's not fat anymore! How many times must I tell you...

Yeah. And he's very good in Kingdom. Along with all the other out of work comedians from the eighties.

You have a problem with fat people as well as the jug eared! I'm saddened by your shallowness, Zooo. Saddened and more than a little disappointed. I expect that from the rest of these yaboos, but not you... :(
