Right - well I can't be arsed to read all this.
I don't necessareily like all their stuff - but there is no question that they were brilliantly innovative and THE major music act of 1962-1970

Thanks to Brian Epstein. Remember him?
Their manager, after a fan walked into his shop in Liverpool asking for "My Bonnie" by The Beatles, I think.
Quote: NoggetFred @ July 31 2009, 8:52 PM BSTGeorge was much more than just that, he popularised the whole 'going to India' thing (although people like Paul Horn were already there) which every pop musician felt then obliged to do. He was the thrust of their spiritual side.
Paul was very cool, but in a less obvious way. For instance, he supported the contemporary art scene without using it for self-publicity, and he was into the avant-garde, which was pretty cutting-edge cool if you ask me.
In case it wasn't obvious I wasn't being overly serious. And what I know about being cool you could fit on a Johnny Depp matchbox (or isn't he cool anymore? I can't keep up.)
So in that sense Nogget I will ask you. I did enjoy their music though - I grew up listening to my dad's red and blue Beatles albums and mum's Rolling Stones LP's.
ps Chappers you should read the whole thread as you feature regularly in it.
My Mum saw The Beatles twice in 1964. She thought they were "really good". I hope this helps to move the debate forward.

Only if you can tell us which one she fancied?
My mum fancied Paul.
Quote: WrongTale @ July 31 2009, 11:10 AM BSTIt's just like with the famous quote about democracy - the Beatles aren't perfect. The problem is, noone was and is better.
Do you mean Peter of Herman's Hermits?

Yes. Usually in the past tense.

I've just asked her...
"What? Oh, when I first saw them I didn't know who they were and didn't fancy any of them... When I saw them on TV later I found Paul the most attractive. He was a good-looking man... Now I can't stand that McCartney anyway, there's something about him I don't like..."
Again, I hope this helps.

What did he write, sing or play?

I think maybe a fair bit of that refers to a Mr Mark David.

Well it's a fascinating insight into your home life Tim so in that sense, yes it does thanks.
What's that Mother? No, Mother, Jane P's not taking the piss... No, Mother, don't say that... I won't do it, I won't!
Yes, Mother, of course you're right... I'll take care of her tonight...
*moves house*

Your mother should know.
