And isn't Eleanor Rig(s)by about a certain landlord's mum?
Favourite Beatles songs Page 4
Quote: Jack Massey @ July 19 2009, 11:40 PM BSTYes, but obviously that was a sitcom that was on forty years after the song and was just sharing the word, it isn't a direct mention to it like Meet the Wife was.
Oh I see what you mean now. But "Meet the Wife" could just mean "meet the wife" in the lyrics, couldn't it?

Ban her! She's caught Chapman Disease. Pretty much incurable.

I once read a book explaining lyrics in Beatles songs and John Lennon wrote it is a mention to the sitcom. Also, Wikipedia mentions it- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Morning_Good_Morning

I am spending this week listening to the entire Beatles' back catalogue thanks to this thread. Will report back soon.

Poor girl!
As there seems to be one or two Beatles experts on this thread I hope one of you can answer a question.
After the Beatles I know that John wrote a song called 'How do you sleep' which was about Paul, and I think Jealous Guy was about Paul as well.
Does anyone know the song which Paul wrote about John?
I know there was one, but I've never heard it.
The Frog Chorus?

I was laughing at the Frog Chorus bit.
And not the way the quote came out.
I'll laugh at that now
Me too
From WikiAnswers.com
Q: What song did John Lennon write about Paul McCartney?
A: How Do You Sleep on the album Imagine contains lyrics which attack Paul and particularly the quality of some of his solo work.
McCartney admitted that lines in his song Too Many People on the album Ram were intended as digs at Lennon and this was seen as John's reply, although he claimed later that the song was more about himself than Paul.
Hard to pick just a few songs as favourites as there were so many great Beatles songs, and I grew up listening to them.
But here's my Top Twenty (in no particular order):
While my guitar gently weeps
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Help!
Hey Jude
Don't let me down
Please, please me
Twist and shout
I want to hold your hand
She loves you
Some other guy
All my loving
Strawberry Fields
A day in the life
This Boy
Something
Yesterday
Here comes the sun
Lady Madonna
Eleanor Rigby
Because/Mean Mr Mustard/Polytheme Pam/She came in through the bathroom window (medley off Abbey Road)
Aarons' lam'ent

I think Let me Roll It off Band on the Run is supposed to be part of the tit-for-tat. How do you Sleep? is ace, though.
EDIT Wiki to the rescue. Let me Roll It was an olive branch hand of friendship thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_Me_Roll_It

Quote: Jack Massey @ July 19 2009, 11:22 PM BSTGood Morning Good Morning which is the only Beatles song to mention a sitcom. The lyric is 'Everyone you see is full of life, it's time for tea and MEET THE WIFE' Meet the wife was a 1960's sitcom by On the Buses creators Ronnie Wolfe and Ronnie Chesney starring Freddie Frinton and Thora Hird which aired between 1963-1966.
When I mentioned that fascinating bit of trivia a month ago, it killed the thread stone dead. Strange that. https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/13647#P432408
