My husband's cousin knows a family that won $13 million. They bought each set of parents a new house and paid off their own. They then sold it, bought a $450,000 house on the lake, bought all new furniture, quit their jobs, opened a autobody paint and decal place and went on a bunch of vacations. They wrecked their new car, I think it was an Escalade, and because they had no jobs, they had no insurance. The husband and wife had massive hospital bills, they lost the house, the business, and everything. And here's the punchline...they did all of this in the space of 18 months.

Could they not have got insurance without a job?
Yeah, you can buy a personal policy, but they were already in the hospital when it dawned on them that they had no insurance. They had no collision on the SUV, and the accident was their fault.
Is it not illegal to drive without insurance there?
They had insurance coverage, just nothing to cover the repairs to the wrecked car, so they were out $40,000. (i'm on Facebook with my husband's cousin and she's giving me the details).
Makes you feel grateful for the NHS.
Yeah, she had a collapsed lung and he broke his leg in 3 spots. I can't imagine what that would cost out of pocket.

Ah, I see.
They won $13 million, paid the taxes on it, which knocked off almost half, and took the lump sum, so the actual amount they had was substantialy smaller.
I'd buy a reasonable house somewhere nice, get a new car (finally) and put my kids through college. Beyond that, I don't know.
If I won, I certainly wouldn't burn any bridges at work, but I'm not sure I'd be able to keep it a secret.
No way, I would rather not win than win and have people know about it. I would put it into the bank, or several banks in order to hide the amount.
There was a guy worked for the local authority. He used to work in Scotland but then got a job back in Wales. He moved down here first leaving his wife back in Scotland. So naturally he thought she would buy the usual Saturday night lottery ticket. She thought he would. You can guess the rest.
He f**ked me over for a job once so the next time I saw him I asked innocently if he ever did the lottery. How I laughed
I wouldn't go public (as in the press) as loads of horrible stories about me would surface. But I'd tell family and buy them stuff.
Well I just won the lottery...
All of £10 and I'm not going to tell anyone.

Oh damn I just told you lot.

The INTEREST on a Million, even at a measly 4% would be £40,000 per year, so you really wouldn't NEED to work any more.
So you could give up your work, where possibly other people are ordering you about & create your own business or charity where you would be the boss & order other people about instead.
