I think you are thinking of "Plan 9 from Outer Space."
Attention all moon landing sceptics Page 7
Quote: Kenneth @ July 19 2009, 7:13 AM BSTa true story, all about how the moon landing footage broadcast around the world came from an Australian radio telescope and tracking station.
There was a drama on BBC One a couple of years ago about that, I think... Seem to recall that it starred Hugh Bonneville.
Quote: Kenneth @ July 19 2009, 7:13 AM BSTInteresting, but not as many laughs as The Castle.
So approximately as funny as an Aushcwitz documentary.

Yes. But slightly less gruesome.
*Auschwitz
Quote: Lee Henman @ July 18 2009, 8:04 PM BSTThe most amazing thing about all this to me is that in the 37 years since man last set foot on the moon, NASA are still using cameras about as powerful as my cameraphone.
Absolutely incorrect. Let's inject some common sense into this thread:
1) Those are some of the earliest photos taken by LRO. It is not in its final orbit and the camera's focus has not yet been fine tuned. Later photos will be slightly better.
2) LRO's mission is not to prove the Apollo landings. It is designed to survey the surface of the moon for future manned landings by the United States. Such landings do not require imagery detailed enough to read a newspaper from space, but the LRO camera has a resolution of 0.5 meters per pixel and that's very good indeed. However it means that any image of hardware on the moon will be only a few pixels in size.
Quote: sootyj @ July 18 2009, 8:51 PM BSTAnd when I get a chance Woomera in Australia.
I have friends in the satellite biz who worked there. I wish I'd been able to visit.
As for the current LRO mission, I can personally verify that the signals being received are coming from the vicinity of the moon. Our antenna is pointed at the moon and a downlink is present.
The real question is who will make it to the moon first in the 21st century: China or the United States?
The UK I bet there's some boffin building a wizard space rocket in their shed somewhere in blighty.

Sure that wasn't the film The Dish (2000), which starred Sam Neill? Hugh Bonneville wasn't in it, though. Perhaps there was also a TV drama, but I don't recall it.
Quite possible.
Quote: Tim Walker @ July 19 2009, 5:54 PM BSTSure that wasn't the film The Dish (200),
They were making movies back then . . ?
Sam Neil was making films in 200AD?? He's aged well for over 1.800 years.
The Dish was a great film. If only for the Hawaii Five-O-American national anthem bit.
I watched The Right Stuff the other night. Terrific film and absolutely lousy with big stars.
Is nobody worrieds about when the moons going to come to us?
War of the Worlds people!
