Hope your game's a little more riveting than this World Club Final

Littlehampton were thrashed 5-0 by Athletic Newham in the 4th round of the FA Vase in January.

They have since been reinstated because of Newham playing an ineligible player and "sailed" through the 5th round 3-3, winning on penalties.

So they are now back on the Wembley trail and play at home to North Shields (there's a trip and a half) in the quarter finals on 12 March. It's a funny old game...

I remember my first visit to Wembley where I saw Sutton United unluckily beaten by North Shields in the Amateur Cup Final in 1969.

I remember my first visit to Wembley where I saw Sutton United unluckily beaten by North Shields in the Amateur Cup Final in 1969.

I was too young (age 9) to go to the 1963 Amateur Cup Final, Wimbledon v Sutton - in which Eddie Reynolds scored a record four headed goals - but did listen to the commentary on the wireless - yes the amateur cup final was broadcast live on the wireless in those days.

I did go to the 1967 final, Enfield v Skelmersdale, which required a replay at Maine Road, and the 1973 final, Walton & Hersham v Slough, which, coincidentally, and obviously unbeknown to me at the time, involved future Wimbledon stalwarts, Dave Bassett, Dave Donaldson, Billy Edwards, Roger Connell & Keiron Somers, in the Walton team, which was managed by future Wimbledon manager Allen Batsford.

I've just been watching the Big Match Revisited on ITV4. They've been showing 1976-7, the year I had a season ticket at Chelsea (£25 or £30) and they got promoted from the second division. Just watched Wolves v Chelsea which I went to. A 1-1 draw which saw both teams promoted. Nottingham Forest sneaked in 3rd. What happened to them? Interesting to see Butch Wilkins with one of those satin scarves we all used to wear after the game.

Also that season they played Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday. They couldn't manage that nowadays.

So, the upturned bucket was sat upon and, having been sat upon, moves on...

Horrible mixed feelings today.
As a Chelsea supporter of over 50 years I should be excited about this afternoon's final.
But it's all a bit grim.
Chelsea are so much more than Abramovich but I think the players are going to get a lot of hate directed at them - more than usual anyway.
I expect a fairly subdued Chelsea crowd.

The BBC has accused David Beckham of overexposure. David will be on the BBC to talk about that later.

Maybe just as well we lost.

Glad they deliberately brought on a Keeper who can neither save nor score penalties.
He'd have been down the salt mines under the previous regime

You spelt his name wrong.

You'd have thought he'd have learned some lessons from Gareth Southgate bringing on players immediately before a penalty shoot-out when they'd not had any involvement in the game.

What lily-livered rubbish from UEFA.
