Ah. I LOVE football. And rugby. And cricket. It makes me a great date - I will suggest leaving the restaurant early to go home and watch MOTD.

You may have several proposals of marriage coming your way.

Premiership is back this weekend. Looking forward to seeing how the new signings get on.

All eyes on Ozil me thinks.

Anyway, that game was there for the taking for England tonight. Not enough ball control, too many long passes, not enough creativity in the final third. I reckon the mighty reds of Nottingham Forest could have beaten this Ukrainian team tonight (possibly before that Beezus chap came on, he looked quite handy).

I'm not surprised we played badly, we have a duller than dull manager, I mean football wise, over cautious, unambitious, picks Milner! But that's our idiot FA's fault (and Sir Trevor Boring Brooking. Go!) They made the grave error of snubbing the greatest coach of the day in Clough, now they've done it again with Redknapp. Both men would've got England playing better than they have been, they look awful under Hodgson. And yes, every year I wish two former greats were back in the top flight, Forest and Leeds Utd. There just seemed more drama, more passion and more genuine football about when they were in the top flight. Let's hope they both get back there soon.

Oh God Hodgson is so so dull. His personality so shows in his football. But he is a safe pair of hands. He's not a manager of a top flight international team. England are nowhere near as good as the likes of Spain or Brazil but should be at least in the next tier. Winning the World Cup is a long, long, long way away. In terms of trophies since 1966 they are just as successful as Wales who haven't qualified for a tournament in my life time :(

In terms of Europe they are also way off. These teams are still streets ahead.

Spain, Germany, Holland, France, Portugal- first tier

England, Russia, Belgium, Ukraine, Poland (there are more)-2nd tier

Always the coolest looking team, by a long way.

They played this on the radio the other day and it shows what a visionary Harry Redknapp was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctWS52IA_JY

You are probably right. I thought the game was their for the taking - why not get someone like Ross Barclay on and see what they can do?

If we can replace Kyle Walker with someone..good...we arguably have as good a back four as any of the Tier 1 teams you mentioned. We just lack the creativity in the centre of the park and up front.

I'm sure Gareth Bale could have played for England. All Welsh people have a drop of English blood in somewhere.

Hodgson has plenty of European experience, so it's a shame to see that his team plays such an ugly, outdated English way. The blame can't be laid purely at his door, but after a year or so in charge he doesn't seem to have improved things.

I read about that in one of the papers recently, so thanks for posting it. Looks like Frank has had to take some flak from lots of sources from an early age, but has had the last laugh.

"Goalkeeper misses kick-off in Macedonia-Scotland game.

In a bizarre start to the second half of the World Cup qualifier between Macedonia and Scotland, French referee Fredy Fautrel has to stop play after the home goalkeeper Tomislav Pacovski misses the re-start."

It's just a shame that such a talent will never achieve anything of note on the international stage. :( It's as if Pele hailed from Uzbekistan or something.
