I think it has as much chance of becoming popular in this country as soccer has in yours. Maybe the odd rugby fan will take a shine to it, but I doubt there will even be many of them.

Soccer is actually very popular here, but not as popular as baseball, football or basketball. Millions of kids play in soccer leagues, so the sport is bound to continue growing. And then there are all the immigrants from Mexico and Central America ...
EDIT: I just read that it's the most popular youth sport in the United States. The problem is that it can't seem to make any money as a spectator sport.
Back to the top with a late Nolan winner. C'mon!

But this is what I mean, this is the problem. No-one over there (as far as I know) is interested in spending their money going to see soccer matches. There is also the fact (as in every other country) that your national sports are far too deeply engrained in your culture and there will always be a reluctance to change that, no matter how good or enjoyable the 'imposter' may be. If it's lucky, American football will peak here at fad status, but I don't even expect that if I'm honest.
Personally, I really don't like rugby and so American football is a definite non-starter. As a big cricket fan, however, I've been meaning to watch a bit of baseball and see how I like it.
Quote: DaButt @ October 24 2009, 3:38 PM BSTI see that there's another NFL game being played at Wembley tomorrow. It sounds like the league plans to double or quadruple the number of games over the next few years, with the intention of possibly adding a permanent team in London. Any thoughts?
Personally, I think they should establish a team or two in Canada first. They're more familiar with American football and it would be less of a curiosity.
No!!!!!
Nobody gives a toss about that stupid game over here. If they want to be real men why can't they get rid of all that bloody padding and stuff. I'm sure it causes more injuries than it prevents.

Come on - it's just rounders!

They don't seem to have a problem selling tickets for the NFL games in London.
Dozens of people died every year playing football before pads were introduced. There are still deaths every year, but you'd be crazy to play the sport without pads - the field would be littered with paralyzed and dead players. Watch some YouTube footage of what happens when 300-pound players smash into each other at full speed and then put yourself in the shoes of a team owner, insurance company and a player with a $100 million contract.
There was a big NFL craze, back in the '80s, when I was a little kid. The famous '85 Chicago Bears team, featuring peoplelike Jim McMahon, Walter Payton, William Perry and Coach Mike Ditka really made a big impression back then. I remember one of my mates got a Miami Dolphins jacket bought for him, and I used to laugh because I could always spot him really easily when he was in a far away crowd, because of the shiny turquoise colour standing out.
Big game soon.. Torres no gerrard equals 50 percent of a team
