I only realised earlier that Arsenal's current record signing is just £15m for Arshavin back in 2009. It boggles the mind how Wenger has managed to keep costs down for so long and continue challenging for a Champions League place. Now that he's (apparently) got a war chest for the summer, he's going to be under some pressure to deliver.

Arshavin was such a great player when he was in the zone - he might have become as good as Messi/Bergkamp. I wonder what went wrong? There seemed to be a psychological element. Maybe Wenger didn't handle him as well as he could, or the chemistry between them wasn't quite right? I don't think it was just about money/greed, or Arshavin being lazy, or whatever.

Switzerland - Cyprus 1-0...in the 90th minute! Nerve wrecking game...still, as long as we go to Brazil everything's ok.

I heard one theory earlier that Wenger played him out of position. When he scored all four goals against Liverpool he was playing through the centre. Most of the time Wenger stuck him out on the wing.

This is pretty awful: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/relegation-scandal-takes-toll-on-doncaster-rovers-belles-8650856.html

Interesting. It raises that whole question of what does a manager do with a special player. Do you build the team around them, or at least always play them in their best position, or do you try and look at the broader picture, but risk losing out on their match-winning potential?

That is disgusting. They are one of the biggest names in the Women's game. I think that there should be questions asked in the House. (or the kitchen!) (sorry didn't mean that!!!)

Nice goal by Neymar against Japan last night. Can't wait to see how he gets on at Barcelona.

Joe Kinnear. Jesus.

He gave one of the most rambling, nonsensical interviews I've ever read.

Just when you think Ashley might have a clue how to run a football club, he pulls a stunt like that.

Come back, Freddy. :(

Pardew's pleased about it though according to Kinnearnotpardew

Kinnear's from a different era. It's just so... odd.

The Jurassic I believe.

Watching Spain thrash Tahiti. Currently 9-0 with six mins to go.

10-0

I think I heard on the wireless that Shearer's Bar at St James' Park has been renamed 'Nine' or '9'.

Petty twats.(It seems like without knowing the full story I would add)

Haven't been watching it, but the Nigeria vs Tahiti game was more entertaining than yesterday's Brazil vs Mexico. The ref even provided a nice assist for Nigeria that then led to a shot that deflected off a Tahitian player for a goal, pinball style.
