My defence of cricket is that there's a lot of variation going on within each over and things do actually happen (especially in test cricket). I've looked for all this variation in pitching/field placement/batting tactics in baseball and frankly just can't see it. The entire game seems to be based on stats. I know they're very keen on stats in American Football as well, but at least I can see something kind-of happening in that game. Baseball just seems to be 9 innings of very little going on.
The best cricket I ever watched was on the T.V. Drama 'Bodyline', back in the '80s. It was a bit like a 'Rocky' film, but it was about Cricket instead of Boxing. I watched it when I was a little kid, and suddenly started playing cricket, instead of football. That lasted for about a week.
As for Americans, I will never get my head around their hatred of our football. They say it's boring, but still they love the snore-fest that is Baseball. Don't they get the Premiership over there? Didn't they hear about the 4-3 Manchester Derby from the other week? How could they not find that exciting?
