MY TEAM:
ASTON VILLA

My neighbor has become quite the Villa fan. His family emigrated from the Birmingham area about 150 years ago and he's a huge Cleveland Browns fan (I guess their owner owns AV?) so he's adopted Villa as his own. I don't know a thing about the sport but I don't mind watching at 6 A.M. as long as beer is involved.

I heard on the wireless tonight that Manchester United have extended Howard Webb's loan period for another year.

MY TEAM:

ASTON VILLA: I supported Arsenal until I was 5 (thank God I don't support them now! think how much stick I'd get!) My family on my dad's side support Villa because their ancestors were from near Aston in Birmingham. I see we may be trying to sign Hutton from Liverpool for £4m.

I used to support teams in loads of countries:

CELTIC (Scotland)
VALENCIA (Spain)
BAYERN MUNICH (Germany)
INTER MILAN and JUVENTUS (Italy)
PSV (Holland)
ANDERLECHT (Belgium)
FENERBAHCE (Turkey)

If I ever see the Japanese J-League table online, in magazines or on TV, I always check how Kashimer Antlers ar doing. It all comes from me seeing this goal, one Saturday afternoon, on Football Focus, back in '93/'94: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RRGeIketm4&feature=related

Laughing out loud Har har. Wondering when the first referee joke would befall us.

From yesterday's deals you can tell the clubs with ambition. QPR and Stoke should be hanging around a bit longer than expected now. Arsenal bought well too, but really needed to. All their new buys have a bit of much needed experience and Mertesacker should give them that physical edge they've been lacking. Still a bit surprised they didn't grab a keeper, or Spurs, who need one just as badly.

A couple of surprise moves, Hargreaves to Man City. You'd think after not playing for 4 years, he'd want to do more than sit around on benches! And Joe Cole, who was offered his last chance to show off his England potential at a decent club and turned it down for a foreign club few have still heard of. Bizarre! Best bargain - Parker to Spurs at 5m.

Not happy that Newcastle haven't signed up a new striker. We could struggle again.

Total spent £12.65m. Players sold 47m, says it all really...

A team in Russia called Ankha Makchkakla has been bought by a multimillionaire and they've got Roberto Carlos and Samuel EtO'o

More news on this team btw, they bid 41 million on Andy Carrol on transfer deadline day. Cheeky bastards got turned down though.

Mertesaker, Arteta and Parker were all exciting moves.
Spurs have Friedal and gomes in nets, however, why they never went for Given before Villa got him I will never know.

Mixed feeling over Hargeaves, he was great for us back when he was fit and I really wish him well, however I don't really want him to help city agaisnt us. :S

I shouldn't worry too much - Hargreaves is a latter day Bryan 'Captain Tampon' Robson - In for one week, out for three... ;)

In any case, you only have to look at City's squad to see he won't play that many games. The chances of him being fit coinciding with a Manchester derby are slim to say the least.

To illustrate the point here's a bit of classic Murray Walker commentary...

"Tombay's hopes, which were nil before, are absolutely zero now!" :D

I support Joe Cole in his move to Lille. I think it's brilliant. We are lucky to have one of the top 2 leagues in the world here (the other being La Liga), but that doesn't stop top Spanish players going to other countries to play: Silva, Reina, Fabregas, Torres, etc have all had success here when they could easily have stayed at home.

Good luck Joe.

I did hear a rumour on Deadline Day that Torres was seen in Spain. Shame someone there didn't buy him.

I'm glad Crouch has done one. The only tall striker to actually make himself shorter when jumping for the ball.

As for giving away Jenas for a season, wtf!? Woodgate's come good as well.

Scotty Boy'll do well though, was gutted they never got Charlie Adam in Jan. Parker's class though.

I wish Newcastle had bought Crouch, I rate the man.

I would have liked him at Fulham too. He will score goals. (Just not as many with his had as he should do.)

I know it's been said before, but that Chairman is raping Newcastle. Hughton did a top job there.

I remember the Keegan Manegerial days as some my fondest memories of watching premiership football. What a team.

And I hope Jol gets an ovation at White Hart Lane. He was treated disgracefully.

All true. :(

I thought you said you were in Wigan.

Crouch is class. It's just foreign refs who can't handle him - so to speak.
