The FA have a history of not picking the right man because of dodgy reputations. They seem more concerned about their image than what is right for the team.
Clough, Venables and Harry have suffered in the past and I'd hate Redknapp to lose out again. Strikes me that he's the only English manager that could command some respect of the players despite an average playing record of his own.
The problem is is that no other English manager has really had the chance to prove themselves with a top side recently. In fact there's only been one English top flight championship winner since 1987 and that was in 1992 before the Premiership had even started.
'Arry is the only credible English contender.
The only person I'd have instead of him would be Mourinho- for the fun interviews and controversy, if nowt else.

The '87 title went to Howard Kendall's Everton, after having already won it in '85. It's just a shame that he then felt the need to leave us to manage Athletico Bilbao, due mainly to that damn European ban. Then, humiliatingly, he came back to manage us two more times, both of which wre disastrous, e.g. he almost got us relegated in '98.
Now testing my memory of English championship managers - hopefully you realised that I knew Howard Kendall was '87 - let's see how far back I can go...

Interesting that between 1970 and 1987 there were only three non-English managers and that the others were all Scottish. In 1973 it was Bill Shankly, in '75 it was Dave McKay (Derby) and finally Kenny Dalglish in 1986.
The English game has always been filled with Scottish, Irish & Welsh players and managers. It is traditionally a 'Best of British league' taking the cream of the crop of the players, managers and coaches from the British Isles. It is nothing new.
So, yes there have been no English PL winning managers.....but one British bloke has won it 12 times out of 19.
Incidentally....
Everton have been English champions 9 times and Villa 7. BUT, Everton's wins have been spread fairly evenly over the decades suggesting a consistency. Aside from 1980/81, Villa's most recent win was 1909/10. But, they all count.

Now that is surprising.
Surprised me, too.
Villa did finish as runners-up in the first Premier League season, so have had the highest finish of the two clubs since 1993.
I have a marginal interest in sport but Wolves would have to be 'my' team.
They've just signed Jamie O'Hara for a reputed £35000 a week.
Thing is, how are footballers paid?
Does he get a salary slip on the last day of the month showing gross earnings as £140000 less x tax and x National Insurance and x subs to the PFA or is it a lump sum into a Swiss bank account?

While the house is nice enough when you look on Google Maps it still looks fairly non-descript considering that monthly salary.
