With Columbo getting a lot of mentions we should also mention Petrovitch from Dostoevesky's "Crime and Punishment", since the makers based Columbo on him.

Oooo. I didn't know that.

I found that way more interesting than I should have.

And if we're talking Columbo we shouldn't forget this!

Unless we're talking Alan Arkin or Steve Martin.

The Alan Arkin movie Inspector Clousseau is not too bad. It's better than the first two Panther films made after Sellers died, Trail of the Pink Panther and Curse of the Pink Panther, largely because it's got Geoffrey Bayldon it it (as well as Beryl Reid and Anthony Ainley - the latter being the Master in Doctor Who). Geoffrey Bayldon should be regarded as a living national treasure, yet there's scant mention of him on this site.

Mrs Columbo sleeps in a single bed? And Columbo doesn't realise his marriage is in collapse? Some detective.

That would explain why we never saw her.

:)

I find it a little surprising that no-one has mentioned Jack Delaney yet. Whistling nnocently

Who?

Pedofael, the medieval detective you wouldn't want to leave your kids with.

But it's a bit ironic that she couldn't find out where she'd got the ship to, while Columbo's speciality is finding things out!

Who?

Aw, c'mon Chappers! Think BCG, think novelist, think Jack Delaney.
