How A Writer Dies - Blog Page 9

Just remember peeps, this is a public forum. Not only guests but the writer of the blog has read this. The writer is a human being with feelings. Like all writers, they experience highs and lows. And (as we all know) writing is a lonely and often unrewarding task.

Just be respectful about heaping more pain upon one of our peers.

Personally I want to see this writer turn it around and continue. So, if that writer does read this thread, keep fighting and writing.

And yes, I'm aware of an early flippant comment for which I apologise. I was considering deleting it but I'll leave it there to show me up for what I am.

Although there is something curiously masochistic about the blog, and the thinking behind it. That said, failing to sell means nothing. Poor John Kennedy Toole went to his grave having failed to sell Confederacy of Dunces, which his mum later sold, with the book going on to become a modern classic.

What a Tool(e)!

You are clearly a far more educated man than me - I have not heard of this work.

I do feel that my educatation in science and engineering has really left me wanting a bit in this world of writing.

I think we all have empathy for the Unknown Writer, but just very little sympathy, which - from the tone - would appear to be fine with him.

I think it sounds like he's having a little re-set, writers don't stop writing, they just stop showing people.

I think we do know the writer!

Have only just had a look at his blog. I think it's pretty interesting! Good for him. I love writers' blogs anyway, and it's quite refreshing to see one which is honest about the bad things and not just self congratulatory about the good.

He really does need to sort out his apostrophe use though. Worse than a grocer!

I confess I haven't read it yet - but I will.

The other thing he has been very successful at is getting lots of people reading and discussing it - there is always a career in marketing!

Do grocers have a bad reputation about apostrophe useage?

I still think he's planning to pitch it as a blog to book thing.

Yes, but there are theories that it makes their writing more distinctive, which would be more valuable to them than so-called correct usage.

I tell you who was good with an apostrophe - G.K. Chesterton.

:D ;)

Join up; the more followers he has, the closer he is to that book deal...

Well, he really seems to have perked up recently.

I'll say this for Marc - if it is Marc, of course - the man completely identified which of my scripts would be my "signature" script, getting me attention in the industry. He was completely right about that and it gave me a lot of confidence to really push it - to the point that it has now been sold. Cheers, mate. ;)
