Note though it's refering to urban crime hot spots. Generalised national statistics would convince.
The answers are more complex, as are the questions. For example our education system with it's repeated exams sets patterns of failure early on. Check out how in places like Hull street crime etc doesn't vanish with a low population of blacks.

I think he was latino.
I always thought muggers sticked within their own demographic. Whites mug whites. Blacks mug blacks etc.

Here's a bit of social quandry - the roles for muggers in film and television shows are being given almost exclusively to white actors, thus depriving black actors of screen time, a credit and a paycheck.
Not getting work or having a steady income could result in the unemployed actor turning to crime.
