Napoleon is not a nerd. He transcends the term.
Anyway, I was programming Basic into a ZX81 before most of you were born, so I think I'm better-placed to speak with some authority on the development of information technology.

Then why didn't you...?
Quote: Griff @ July 10 2009, 10:58 PM BSTIt's almost like you're not interested in Internet standards protocols RFC 822 and RFC 1866.
I think you'll find those were both invented by people called Tim.
I have a Spectrum ZX!
(Sorry, you were all talking 'puters and I wanted to join in )
Quote: Griff @ July 10 2009, 10:59 PM BSTThis isn't a battle you're going to win, Tim. (It's not a battle I'm proud to be in either.)
(ZX81 is kids stuff. I had the ZX80.)
I was spending hours trying to work out how to turn on a 1970s IBM (that for some reason lurked in one of our classrooms) years before you were tapping away merrily on your Fisher-Price ZX80. I had to invent DOS on all by myself just to be able to make the thing usable.
I once rescued 2 shopping trolleys full of old ZX stuff from a strictly Christian residential home. Include a full run Zzap magazine.
Quote: Griff @ July 10 2009, 11:01 PM BSTOne Tim and one Dave. So you were half right.
Nope. Both Tim. Tim Whathisname I just mentioned and Tim Curry, whilst playing Frank N Furter in Rocky Horror....

Yes! Great magazine!
I used to write each issue of it on an primitive word processor during school lunch-breaks. Nice to hear it mentioned again.

I have a gun too. With a copy of 007: The living daylights!
eh? You're worried I'm going to pop by your abode to steal some shopping trolleys full of crap? So you threaten me with gun violence?
The ZX81. I am another ZX81 veteran. I also had the additional 16K ram pack.

Aah the "Am I unpopular because I smell or dress funny?" column was excelent.
Written from personal experience?
