Actually, I wonder what the ev ladder would look like from first timer and Gervais. Who would be in between?

Gervais progression from Comedy Lab to Hollywood is pretty clear and easy to (attempt) to follow....comedy lab and a few sketches written for others turns into 11 oclock show, turns into his chat show, turns (via merchants "in" with the bbc) to The Office, etc, etc

The missing link that would be of real interest is how he went from useless DJ to staring in a Comedy Lab with zero experience....a far harder (in theory) task than being allowed to do The Office.

Maybe the sad (for those without an "in") truth is that having a partner/wife in TV land helps...it's not what you know, etc, etc.

Summary...never be afraid to tap up anyone you know for help!
