You Have Been Watching - Series 1

This new Charlie Brooker thing starts tonight. Much as I love the Brooker, the idea of the panel show, in general, leaves me cold, so I hope he can subvert it or make it somehow entertaining in his usual manner. Having said that, it has got bloody Rufus Hound in it. Who next- Reggie Bloody Yates?

Channel 4, 10pm. Tuesday nights.

Who next- Eddie Bloody Yates?

That would be good.

I like Rufus Hound. :P

Brooker's always at his best - ie., bellicose, angry, vituperative - when he's alone, sitting watching the telly. He's more muted with others, so it'll be interesting to see how he interacts with panellists on a game show.

I'd like him too, if he ever said or did anything funny.

I guess it might be a bit like Mark Lammar on Buzzcocks. Or that little fella who replaced him.

I'll quote you on that. In fact I'm doing it now. Literally.

For anyone, like me, who had to look it up, it's at 10pm on Channel 4.

I like that little fellas hair, but I don't imagine Brooker as being that confrontational. Maybe if he sat alone in another studio, watching the panellists on a big screen, then he'd be angry and rude like what he should be.

Maybe. But it's still easier and better to have it in-thread.

I was hoping this would be on OnDemand but it's not :( Poo.

Virgin has a shit EPG. Doesn't seen to display past 24 hours in advance. Anyway, my point being - Is it gonna be repeated?

It was pleasant and fun, but really it's just Charlie and a few guests there to poke a bit of fun at telly. The quiz element feels tagged-on (to say the least). Don't really need this when one already has Screenwipe, which feels like a more lovingly crafted show. I don't think this show will appeal to a broader/different audience. However, the more of Charlie the better I say. And it was nice to see Richard Herring (and his Hitler moustache) as a guest. Hopefully, one good thing that might come of this show is that the range of comedy guests will differ slightly to most panel shows. (Rufus Hound was pretty good though, by the way.)

You're up late Tim. Good points.

Hey, us old bastards can still cut it terms of staying up late, Daddy-o. Partying hard through the night with a well-filled pipe, a snazzy cardigan, "pimped" slippers, and a cup of Horlicks. *falls asleep*

I liked it, I suppose, and Brooker and Herring were good value as ever. and Jamelia was nice to look at. But Screenwipe/Newswipe are better shows, and I'm not sure this will find an audience and I can imagine it being shifted back in the schedules by week three.

I found this all a bit mediocre compared to the usual Brooker fare. Twenty minutes taking the piss out of The One Show? Nah. I do worry that his edge is going to wear off slightly with these 'showbiz mates' of his!

Just rather mundane after the excellence of Newswipe.
