Targets (Newsjack reject)

To be honest, I don't know for sure it's a reject, as I never received any indication that it got read.

Probably was rejected though. It's pretty lame.

INTERVIEWER:
The government this week announced plans to abandon the "target culture" for social services introduced by Tony Blair. So does this represent a U-turn in government policy? I put it to the prime minister…

BROWN:
No, it's not a U-turn. What we're announcing is a gradual shift away from the target culture. We're committed to reducing the number of government targets by as much as 50 percent by 2012.

INTERVIEWER:
Fifty percent by 2012? Sounds like another target to me.

BROWN:
Not at all. The target is to eliminate targets altogether. In a very real sense, targets are the enemy. Targets are firmly in our crosshairs.

INTERVIEWER:
Your "crosshairs", Prime Minister?

BROWN:
Yes. Oh, I see what you did there, huhuhuh. No. No more targets of any sort.

INTERVIEWER:
So, to be clear, what you're saying is that you're abandoning targets altogether?

BROWN:
Bullseye! Oh, bugger.

Well, I didn't mind it Kevin.

The lead in was slow IMO. Jump straight to the interview and work in a couple more target references, e.g. "we're aiming to..", "set our sights on..." and "going to give it our best shot".

Yeah this wasn't bad, but agreed - a few more target references. They may well use it, they wouldn't have confirmed if they were including it in this weeks show yet until tomorrow correct?

Correct, probably evening (got mine about 5:30ish last week).

Like the sketch, Kev, it's good. Needs to be a bit longer really with a couple more references.

Dan

Good idea, but agree with Geoff about the slow lead in.

True, except this was for last week's episode.

I quite liked it. Good central idea.

Good but not great. Simple jokes. Good jokes though.

Tres bon, mon ami. You talk my language. I liked it a lot.
