So, for those of you who agree with the assertion, that comedy is looked down upon; for what reasons might this be?

It's based purely on an instinctive physical response, you laugh or you don't.

Most of the other artforms go for an intellectual response but some times physical as well.

Because 'funny' is equated with 'trivial'.
