John Sullivan

With the news that John Sullivan is working on another OFAH spin off, although I am quite excited about it (more excited than I ever was about The GGG) I wonder whether he will ever work on something completely new again.

He did Citizen Smith (which I have never watched), Roger, Roger (which was great) etc, but since OFAH he hasn't done much at all. I know he's a great writer and doesn't need to prove anything with his track record, but I'd love to see completely fresh characters and material from Mr. Sullivan.

Did you ever see Just Good friends or Dear John ?
They were both very good

I haven't, although I should.

I loved Citizen Smith, watch it Jacob. I accept I'm in a minority but I found it funnier than Only Fools. If you like Only Fools though, I can guarentee you'll like it. I've obviously seen and loved Only Fools and have also watched Dear John which is another great Sullivan series. I've seen the Green Green Grass, yet didn't like that.

Recmmmend Citizen Smith, will never understand why it isnt rated as highly as OFAH, IMO its easily better

Also he did an RAF drama with Martin Clunes, think it was called Over Here

Citizen Smith was so very good but OFAH simply has it all.

Citizen Smith was OK, but OFAH was the best thing he's done. Enough with flogging the dead horse, though The Green Green Grass was/is one of the most godawful shows (spinoffs or otherwise) in TV history and talk of OFAH making yet another comeback is nauseating. The Grandad and early Albert years were very good a times, but it's more than had its day (and sadly more). Let it lie.

In think OFAH is done, I met Roger Lloyd Pack and he said the same. However, it was pretty much said that if David Jason wanted to do more, then they would. I think this is very unlikely now. He is too old to play Del Boy.

The Green Green Grass may have stood a chance if it hadn't used such cliched bumpkins. I know a lot of characters are in effect characitures of real people but it felt like I was watching a cartoon waiting for Elma Fudd and Foghorn Leghorn to show up.

Interestingly his leading characters are all losers (Wolfie Smith, Del, John in Dear John...).

Could you not say that about almost every leading Britcom character?

True I suppose, but Sullivan seems to be better at writing about them IMO. Well Sullivan and Galton And Simpson.

What about John Cleese?

I remember watching Citizen Smith when I was little and finding "Power to the People" funny. That's all I remember though.

Dear John... is brilliant - sitcom snobs (I am one) will find the writng a lot better than Only Fools And Horse. Kirk is, in my oppinion, one of the greatest sitcom characters of all time. All of the first series and a Christmas special are on YouTube.
