Course it doesn't make you a bad person. We've all made or laughed at off-colour remarks in private. But I think the point is this is potentially reaching a wide audience which then becomes hurtful to people affected, which is unfair, especially since people with learning difficulties can't necessarily defend themselves.

I dunno, it just doesn't 'feel' right to me and I'm pretty broad-minded.

It is, but Gervais apparently recently posted up on his blog that he was writing a script based on Derek, and he posted the link to the movie.

I didn't say it was ok, just human nature I suppose. There's an old woman with a gammy leg near to where I live who I joke to my missus about wishing she'd die soon because she always talks to me at the most inconvenient times. I've even acted out various death scenarios, one of which was her being raped to death by her own chihuahah. On the face of it it's a horrid joke, but she'll never know. So I'm by no means whiter than white in that regard. But if I was to make a TV show about her, that'd be different. Suddenly it's not a private joke. It's very public and she's now a 'victim'. I suppose what it all boils down to is I don't like bullying.

I used to think Karl Pilkington was being bullied too until I found out he's now a millionaire. Now I just want Gervais & Merchant to give it to him more

RG is getting to the stage where he could quite easily say "There's a weight of intellect behind my comedy" with no hint of irony.
