Kings Head Theatre this week: my play what I rote Page 4

I'm definitely keen to do some more theatre. Apart from anything else, it's fun.

Good man! That's exactly what it is.

:)

Did you find Griff that it was the scariest thing you're experienced...i.e. the first night wondering how the audience would react?
I have acted professionally but was never so scared sh*tless as when my own play was performed on the first night

It's incredibly hard to tell how it went, especially since it's not pure comedy but has some dramatic scenes. But I got a few laughs in a few places, and nobody seemed to fall asleep or walk out or start texting their mates, so hopefully it went OK! And I certainly felt a hundred times happier watching this than watching my Sitcom Trials performance earlier in the year, which really depressed me. The difference of course being the opportunity to properly work with the director - me telling her what my intention was with various scenes, and her telling me where I needed to fix the script. The whole thing has been a great learning experience, I'm definitely keen to do some more theatre. Apart from anything else, it's fun.

Glad to hear it went well, Griff - I'll do my best to make the next one!

Hi Bushbaby - Funnily enough no, because I had confidence that the director wouldn't have gone ahead if there were huge problems with the piece. As mentioned previously, Sitcom Trials was scary because I had no such assurance. Where was your play performed, Bushbaby?

I had two comedy plays on at the Lion and Unicorn.
I was scared in case they didn't laugh, didn't get the humour but they belly-laughed in places where I just thought I'd get a chuckle

Well done on getting your stuff on. What were the reviews and feedback like?

The feedback from the audiences was brilliant but there were no reviews, I think my plays were possibly the first to be put on when the theatre was established and wasn't yet well known........1999

Congratulations again. Nice to be one of their inaugral plays.

...And wasn't 1999 the year a chunk of the moon broke off and went hurtling into deep space?

Yeah and everyone was wearing those flared cream jumpsuits. God we were mad in 1999.

1999 seems almost like another decade now...

I meant to say that a member of the comedy dept BBC came to see them [after I wrote to invite them] and she wanted one of them. I adapted the script for TV and submitted it. It took them a year of committee meetings and at each stage it was accepted. Finally it only needed the signature of the Head of scripts and she liked it. A week later she left and the new Head didn't want it..........they usually don't as they like to select their own from scratch

Sorry Griff, I'm hijacking your thread!!!!!!!
