Kings Head Theatre this week: my play what I rote

Ooooh! very impressive!
Nice flyer too.

Really best wishes with it, Griff. If I were able to attend, I surely would.

Yes, but he wasn't talking about this particular stage, was he?

Enjoy the ride, mate. Hope it opens up new writing avenues. :)

For those of you who are mostly writing TV and radio scripts, I'd highly recommend the experience of writing for theatre. It's a very different challenge from writing sitcom.

Any tips regarding getting something staged?

I submitted a one-act play for the Windsor Fringe and just heard it's not one of the three they're staging.

It doesn't look like I am going to be able to make this now, but all the best of luck with it.

Well done Griff, hope it goes well.

Thanks, Griff. And Good Luck.

Well for about 500 squids you can book most really small theatres for the afternoon. One of the joys of News Revue if you go early is the number of numpties putting on their own wizard stage show (usually with more performers than audience)

I've set up a small production company and we're putting on a play in Cardiff in September in a 380 seater. Reasonably priced too.

I'm also putting a different play on outdoors, running it three times a day - cheap and for minimal return, but you can hone your script - and if there's a crap show it's only twenty minutes until your next one!

Look for things in your area too - I recently finished as a runner-up in a Scriptslam competition in Cardiff and that's helped with a few opportunities.

Books are good too, as suggested - my favourites are:

So you want to be a playwright - Tim Fountain.

Writing a play - Gooch

The crafty art of playmaking - Ayckbourn

Cheers Griff -I've never heard of it so I'll look that up now.

Once again, all the the luck in the World to you chief

That's crazy - I don't know if you guys have heard of the Google books furore recently - but they've aquired the rights to loads of books - The Playwright's Guidebook by Stuart Spencer being one of them

Good luck with that, Griff.

Shame it wasn't 2nd July at 1pm as I'm in London that day. (Coming up to see NewsRevue)

Maybe we should all stage something sometime.

Good luck with the 380-seater, that's awesome. Which venue is that?

Sorry - missed that.

It's 'The Gate' - a converted Church on edge of City Centre - it's a bit of a risk
but my colleague and I have written 6 plays in as many months - and we're getting some good feedback.

The reason we're doing it this way, is because the plays are comedies and make absolutely no attempt to be anything more. So the real theatre groups don't seem to keen
>_<

Good luck Griff! And all the others with plays on.

Best of luck - would love to come but unfortunately unable to. Look forward to hearing how it goes.
