Back to Class - Thank You For The Music Page 24
Quote: James Cotter @ October 16 2009, 7:04 PM BSTSo let me get this straight you don't want me to reply to this post?
Quote: Renegade Carpark @ October 16 2009, 7:41 PM BSTSo it's two inches long then.
No, silly - that's the length of his foreskin.

Two inches? I can only assume everyone else has an "innie".

Okay, no need to brag donkey boy, I bet you pee standing up and everything.
My cock is like any of my sketches - short, funny and to the point.
(when erect, that is)

No, lying down and fully clothed.

Too much ammunition...must resist...can't do it...
A cheap imitation
Funny at both ends but weak in the middle
Should be on the radio
You've never entered it successfully into anything
Graham Norton liked it
You'd like to see it come out of the mouths of the School of Comedy kids
Old fashioned and racist
It leaves a bad taste in your mouth

Pot - kettle or what?!

Brilliant 'voices' - ahem....Oh and unlike Cotter - sound only.
Yeah lets go and use something that was recorded in 2006 to back up your (missed) point.
That in fact just supported my original point. I wasn't directly saying that 'Back To Class' wasn't up to broadcast standard (although it isn't), I was stating that people's first script isn't usually up to broadcast standard, although the writer may believe it is. This was the feeling I got from James Cotter, I may be wrong as he protests, but that was just my opinion.
That podcast you linked to was recorded in 2006, at the time I too probably thought it was better than it was; I can't even remember what was in it, but nothing that great I can assure you.
But the podcasts weren't anything with the intention of getting broadcast, they were just a way to keep me writing new material and testing it out. Sitcom writing is my passion and what I'm best at, I never professed to be a great performer nor an impressionist; I don't have any aspirations of acting, all I want to do is write, but at that stage the only avenue I had to get my material out there was to record it myself. I don't make podcasts anymore but they did help me develop to where I'm at with my work today. I got some very useful feedback from them, from both regular people and people in the industry (such as Trevor Lock and Emma Kennedy...not Bear Grylls ) and they were fun to do for a while.
Like I said, I may be wrong about James Cotter but I was just offering my opinion. Some people seemed to think he was an ironic comedy character, whereas I felt he was just someone who hadn't been able to let go of an early sitcom.
Now do you want to go dig up an old poem I wrote in primary school and judge me based on that?
Quote: Badge @ October 16 2009, 7:08 PM BSTI'm just a bit sorry for James Williams and Flat.
Maybe this thread could be moved to General Discussion?

So before you give it the 'Holier than thou' bit - make sure that you are holier! - or more to the point, seen to be 'holier'.

You are now.

So why is the link in your signature? If you think the podcast is 'nothing that great' - delete it.

There's a difference offering an opinion and being patronising and smart-arsed - especially as James is young and enthusiastic (like yourself), with an admirable 'never say die' attitude as I trust you are. Frankly, I think you could learn a lot from James Cotter.
Oh and before anyone pulls up any of my smart-arsed stuff etc, I'm an old git whose first sketches were etched on the walls of caves back in the days... so I'm allowed to.

You're comparing a sitcom that was sent to production companies to a sketch podcast that was just shoved up on the net for fun.
So why is the link in your signature? If you think the podcast is 'nothing that great' - delete it.
The link is to my Myspace page not just to the podcast. The podcasts are up there because...well they've always been up there and I haven't bothered to delete them. Although they are nothing that great, I'm not ashamed of them or anything like that. They're doing no harm so they can stay there.

I don't think I was been smart-arsed, certainly no more than anyone else had been previously. I was just saying it can be hard to let go of your 'baby'; a situation that I've been in in the past and I'm sure many others have too, and I was simply saying to forget it and move on to the next project, that judging by his response he already has, so good for him.
I don't really know what I can learn from Mr Cotter? I've been writing for a while now and I'm finally starting to make some progress with my work, so I'm on the right tracks. Not saying I haven't more to learn, hell, I've got lots to learn, but there is nothing in this thread or from 'Back To Class' that has given me a new insight in to writing.
Fair play to both Martin & James for putting their stuff up for scrutiny.
Anyway James.
I know that we've all taken the mickey a bit, and then become rather patronising, but you have come across as a nice & genuine fella, and have recruited a few new Cotter Castaways along the way.
And the good news is that the Back to Class jokes are getting a bit boring.
Question is... can you beat this thread with your next sitcom.
Yes I know that Back to Class was all Dans fault, but I still haven't watched part 2 so what do I know?
I too think James Cotter is a nice guy (though so is the Aspergers bloke who collects trolleys outside my local Tesco) but in true Hollywood dance movie terminology, it's time for him to 'Step Up'.
Instead of releasing the Blu-Ray Game of the Year Limited Edition Platinum Boxset of 'Back to Class - Thank You For The Music', let's see something new and original from the little comedy scamp.
Or...
(and RC hates himself for suggesting this. >_< )
Take the Cotter Casts to the next level, tell people that Back to Class is being commissioned by HBO and that an all star cast is being lined up. Tell us there's going to be a Back to Class movie or that you're setting up a James Cotter fanclub due to all the positive attention. You know, go nuts.
