Scanning trannies

Transparencies that is. I can't seem to do it on my scanner - don't know why. When I used to work for a mag I used to just bung them on the scanner and it would work. Any ideas how to - I have a load of old slides I'd like to transfer into jpegs.

?Bung a sheet of plain white paper over them, the same as if you wanted to photocopy?

Yeah, that works. I had the same problem a couple of weeks back and did just that.

This technique also works when scanning the other form of trannies. Though the paper should be laminated.

Thanks, but it doesn't work. :(

Just a guess. But go to preferences in your scanners options and you might see a drop down menu that starts of with Plain White Paper (or something like that) Drop down the list and select Transparent Paper or anything that's close.

Like I said, just a guess.

There's no reason why the paper option wouldn't work. You do have the transparency underneath the white paper, right?

Cheers Leevil - but it doesn't have those options - I think because I'm using the windows picture gallery to import from the scanner, rather than the correct driver for the scanner that I've been too lazy to install. Maybe that's it?

I had this problem, DD. We're talking the old slides that people projected onto a wall after hols, yeah? You need either a backlight projector that sits over the transparency on the scanner window or you can make one - I once found instructions on the web. There are also scanners that specifically do transparencies as well as ordinary scanning. They use a backlight principle (I think) because they lift up the surroundings to allow the scanner light to reach behind the slide.

That makes sense SlagA, I'll give it a go.

This thread has turned out to be disappointment :(

OK, to broaden the subject then, any advice on how to scan you genitals? For use as clit art, for example.

Are there any cultures that believe that if someone photocopies your bum it steals part of its soul?

Has anyone ever tried to email their aura?

Only if the rent is low enough.

Yep, DD. A normal scanner shines light from scanning source up to the slide, which makes it appear dim or even opaque. Shining a light from behind the slide allows the scanner to see the detail but that light has to be just right.

My local electronics chain store is selling a little scanner gizmo that scans slides and photo negatives for the equivalent of 30 quid. I've been meaning to buy one.

Oooo, that sounds good. I'll look out for one.
