No air conditioning? Are most homes in the UK without air conditioning? What about in the cars?

Cars (but not all) yes. Homes no. Offices, shops, restaurants, bars, etc, some. We don't have a history of very hot weather to justify AC in homes. We spend most of the time trying to keep them warm.
Yep, no one has air conditioning in their home in Britain. It's just not done.
So when we're complaining about the heat and you want to pipe up with your 'ooh it's 40 degrees over here what are you moaning about?' remember that fact and keep your trap shut!

Didn't Aaron just mention that he'd got an air conditioner?

Probably a portable but Aaron would probably know for certain
He just bought it today! It is indeed a portable.

Congratulations, Aaron, for being the first person in the UK to have an air conditioner.
Timotei is my favourite air conditioner.
*strokes it lovingly*
Are you still talking about air conditioning there, Aaron?
Yes.

Yeah, we don't tend to really need it here; it getting hot for a week or two a year doesn't really justify it! We do have them in cars though, yes.

The first place I lived in in Orange County didn't have an air conditioner and it wasn't missed for all but 3 or 4 days a year, but it was an older building. I doubt there are many (if any) new homes built in this country that don't have air conditioning.
We have buildings pre-1950.
