One reason may be that, despite the fact it was officially recommissioned, there has been a lot of turmoil at C4 over the last six months (as I found to my cost). Changes in the production team and probable disputes over who was going to run the show from C4's end may have affected the production schedule. Also, Mitchell and Webb have plenty of their own commitments now. A combination of factors could have well led to a delay in production. At least we can be certain the series six will air. Remember that Fawlty Towers fans had to wait years between series one and two. I suppose patience is a virtue.

Wasn't it something huge like five years? And then when it came out people were sniffy and said it wasn't as good as the first series. There was a similar length of time between I'm Alan Partridge series one and two - and critics were equally sniffy when it finally came out.

As, for some reason, are a lot of people on here, which I just don't get myself, I think that last series was brilliant. It's down to increased expectation because of the length of time rather than the quality of the actual show, it would seem to me.

Yeah, I love the second series as much as the first. Not least because it actually had the balls to move Partridge on slightly, and create a new environment for him to inhabit, rather than just keeping him in the Linton Travel Tavern.

Just once they're established enough to have a large fan base anxiously awaiting the new season, they completely switch up their pattern and leave a giant gap between seasons. They've been airing in may for the past 2 seasons now it's getting pushed way back to autumn? Not happy!
What about the one-and-a-half year gap between series 2 and 3? I'm sure you coped then.

I'm sure you'd rather wait and them to get it right, rather than them to rush something out that's mediocre?
Don't forget, it takes about six months to write six episodes of a sitcom like Peep Show... then another couple of months to film and edit it all together. Hence why there's almost always a year gap between sitcom series (the US does things quicker, but their sitcoms are team written).
Peep Show has an added problem on top of this though... the stars and writers are hugely in demand, so finding slots when they can all be in the room at the same time is getting harder and harder.
Just be thankful it is coming back I'd say! Don't forget, there was a time a couple of years ago when it almost got axed.
Plus, it's already Summer, Autumn is quite soon really.
I don't think it's actually been 'delayed' - it's simply the fact that it was never scheduled to be shot until this summer (presumably due to M&W's availability as mentioned by others).
The press release on the Objektive website announcing S6 did say say:
"Channel 4 has ordered a sixth series of Peep Show following the sitcom's Bafta success. This will be filmed during July/August."
Series 4 of That Mitchell & Webb Sound is being recorded during June/July, so it's probably due to their availability.

Yeah, I suppose the real reason I'm annoyed is because I kept hearing rumors that it was to air May 29th or the following Friday, so I've been checking constantly (on the internet, don't live in the UK), and now to hear I'll have to wait another 5 months or so it's a bit of a let down. Oh well. Will be worth the wait!
Quote: Griff @ June 4 2009, 10:33 PM BSTI'm with Mark. I don't care how long they take to make it, I'm just glad that they are. It's the best sitcom we've got by a country mile. Nothing else comes close.

Maybe if they stopped shaking the damn camera around so some of us could watch it without wanting to toss our guts up!
I thought the 5th was a bit of a dip in quality, but am really looking forward to the next few series' nonetheless. The first few were the very best they've done, and since the 3rd it hasn't always been flat out genius, but it's held up remarkably well throughout and it's still remained somewhat fresh and the best parts still as funny. I'm not usually a big fan of shows which go on lots of series, but in this case I reckon the upcoming ones will be good at the very least. Certainly levels above many other sitcoms around at present.
Quote: Griff @ June 5 2009, 9:52 AM BSTTrue Dan The Thick Of It is probably the next best - also (partly) from the pens of Jesse Armstrong and Simon Blackwell!
I know -- I did think that after I typed it. The future of sitcom is obviously in the hands of one man!

Where did you hear that?
