Coffee - it is yuck in a cup

Coffee is yuck! It tastes absolutely vile and I don't understand why people like it so much. I've never been inside a Starbucks and really can't see the attraction of it at all.

Coffee tastes yuck! Coffee flavoured sweets taste yuck! Coffee flavoured dessert tastes yuck! Coffee flavoured liquer tastes yuck! And in America, McDonald's is selling iced coffee - cold coffee with ice cubes in a plastic cup - triple yuck! / insta puke! Sick

I'd rather suck down some African lady's Red Bush, then drink anything coffee flavoured. I'm not all that keen on tea either, but I can understand it's attraction and it's nowhere near as gross as coffee.

If I want high doses of caffeine then I have any number of colas and energy drinks to choose from.

Someone explain why coffee is so good?

I <3 Coffee
In fact I'm drinking a cup of "Kick Ass" "Kicking Horse" coffee right now.

I love a good coffee and can't stand a bad one.
I've tried oh how I have tried to love Tea. I understand why people like Tea and yet I just can't love it the same way I love my coffee.
Mmmmm mmmmm coffee.

Just you stick to your 'black and white cat/bastard' remarks Renegade.
Whistling nnocently ;)

Coffee is the mutts nuts, I have just made one now. However, coffee needs to made right otherwise it can put people off. One of my true pleasures in life is to sit a Starbucks with a nice coffee, a book, and some light jazz to listen to. But believe it or not, this is coming from someone who had pretty much the same opinion of it as you have now.

Thing is though, I still try and dodge the coffee creme in a jar of Quality Street.

Starbucks...its the third place!

I second this motion, coffee is crap and I can't see the attraction.

What really gets me is the coffee drinkers out there, swaning round Starbucks and other chain places, payting over the odds just as an image thing. 'oh lets go for a coffee' they don't really want to go for coffeee they just want people to hear them say they do.

Rubbish!

Well thanks to Curt and The Rook, I now understand why coffee is so good...er, except I don't. All I know is that they like it and they haven't even explained why.

Come on people, it's not rocket surgery (I love that quote). Why can't I stomach a hot cup of bitter brown love and others can't live without it?

Darren - I suspect that the groups of people who go to Starbucks for a social gathering can't hold their booze or are recovering alcoholics.

I'm wondering if Starbucks tastes different in other countries.
In Canada it is my least favourite coffee. I have yet to be able to finish a large cup of their coffee. Their other drinks are fine but a straight cup of coffee is terrible.

My coffee destination preferences are:
1. Bridgehead
2. Tim Hortons
3. Second Cup

I don't think any of those companies exists outside of Canada though.

Bollocks! I like the taste of coffee, a good red wine and a good pint. If they are of a good quality then I'm happy to pay the price. This is like the same as any 'what do you prefer' questions. It all comes down to personal taste. :|

I just deleted my edit because this is exactly the same way I feel. I like the unique taste coffee offers.
My only additive to Rook's comment would be this:
I like creamy drinks of all shapes and sizes! I don't like tea because it is too watery. To me it's like flavored water. Without even adding cream to a coffee a good coffee should still be creamy from just filtering threw the crushed beans.

Black coffee tastes wonderful to me. I can't tolerate caffeine so I rarely indulge.

I like lager, but would I drink it if it didn't have alcohol in it? Nope.

To paraphrase Jez from Peep Show 'Mmm wine, it's delicious, I mean it's not delicious like Coca Cola is delicious, but it's nice.'

Proper coffee is ace. Starbucks coffee is not ace.

There you go...personal taste.

I am in favour of the alternatives, mind. I agree that the role of a Starbucks barista has been diminished over the past few years and it is about processing orders. But if your out and you want a coffee, then a SBs is pretty handy.

I recommend a book called 'Starbucked' by Taylor Clark. He goes through the SB ethos and raises some very good points.

I have yet to be able to drink an entire cup of any Starbucks coffee.

For me sitting and having a coffee is the closest thing I have to when I used to smoke. It's relaxing, it tastes divine and gives me a kick when I want it.

It really does nothing for me, the smell alone makes me wanna gag. That coupled with the look of it and the colour of it all adds up to a mistake to me.

Pint of kronenberg any day of the week, or time of day, we're adults now so can drink whenever we want, that's nice isnt it?

Crikey, wasn't expecting such an aggressive response...you should cut down on the coffee. :)

When you are a wee kiddy wink, you try certain foods and drinks and know straight away whether it tastes good or not. Coffee and alcohol are two such cases in point.

I drink alcohol to get drunk, not because I think it tastes good. I think most coffee drinkers started young to appear more grown up and have slowly grown to accept the taste.

Oh well, at least you admit to being a normal coffee drinker and not one of these nutjobs who goes into Starbuck's and puts half a pound of chocolate in their beverage to make it taste palitable.

I drank beer and was drinking in bars before I ever drank a single cup of coffee :)
