I loved the first series, but with the exception of one or two sketches, thought the second series wasn't up to much. Episode one of series three was much improved I think and I look forward to the rest of the series. I agree with Tim as far as the Brain Surgery sketch is concerned.

Quote: Tim Walker @ June 13 2009, 10:07 AM BSTThe thing for me that makes the Brain Surgeon sketch so good is that - yes - one can eventually see where it is going, but it's one of those sketches (like a great invention) which makes you think, "Why didn't anyone think of that sooner?". It's a classic, timeless sketch, very well written and performed. One that really makes you envious as a writer. (I've got an Issac Newton sketch, sadly (for me) not yet performed, which is an obvious idea when you read it, but to my knowledge is a take on the whole "apple falling on head" myth which hasn't been done before. Sometimes writing the most obvious ideas are the most satisyfing.))
In fairness there was an excelent Far Side version with 2 policeman breaking a riot up at a conference centre, which booked conferences by Rocket Scientists and Brain Surgeons on the same day.

There was also that incredibly irritating Alan Davies TV ad; a different take perhaps, but enough to raise my hackles as soon as brain surgeons are mentioned.
Sorry, I'm a bit late to this thread... but I just wanted to say I thought that Thursday's opening episode was just brilliant - I love M&W's humour - the perfect mix between clever stuff, slapstick and rude stuff. It was the Victorian sketch that had me chuckling the most. Brilliant.
Was the 'Brain Surgery' sketch done on radio first? It sounded familiar.

It may have been, and I think that might be why I saw the punchline coming about half-way throgh, rather than my incredible nouse.
Victorian sketch was head and shoulders the stand-out. Others were good, but that is one of their best sketches ever. (Not 'Fish and Chip' obviously, but good!)
I thought S2 was very good, and this was on a par. I can't really see this difference people are talking about tbh!
Re: the 'in-between' sketches. They're great and I love them. The argument they had about skin cheese is one of the funniest things ever; had me in hysterics.
Dan
Sometimes their sketches are rather like a slightly cruder version of The Two Ronnies.
Infinitely superior to the rather over rated 2 Ronnies.
Noooooooooooo!
The good Two Ronnies stuff is hilarious. There is a lot of rubbish stuff inbetween though, I'll admit.
Lots and lots and lots of rubbish.
I like Little Ronnies funny stories but the rest was symbolic of the dark ages of sketch comedy that was the 70s (Python and a few other exeptions).

I liked the Two Ronnies and know what you mean.
I always think of M&W a bit more like an up to date Fry & Laurie - wordy and clever but with a few bollocks and f**ks thrown in!
Yes, they are rather like Fry & Laurie in a way (although I don't think any comedy duo will ever make me laugh more than them).

I loooove the wordplay sketches. Am not so keen on the big dance numbers, or the extremely long 'story' type sketches that seemed to take up half the show.
I seem to be out of kilter with opinion on here but I found it disappointing.

You, Sir, are delusional.
You sir are an enormous crab.
