Ohh arr.

HALF WAY THROUGH AN INTERVIEW.

INTERVIEWER: So tell us, how long have you been making these films?

MAN IN THE DARK: Well, I started back in the late nineties. I was one of the first.

INTERVIEWER: Yes, according to many reports, you really pushed the boundaries with your filming techniques.

MAN IN THE DARK: Well, yes, I was just giving the people what they wanted to see. I wasn't afraid to just go in there and get the job done.

INTERVIEWER SHAKES THE MAN IN THE DARK'S HAND.

INTERVIEWER: Thanks very much for coming out to see us (pause) anything you'd like to say to any budding film makers like yourself out there?

MAN IN DARK: Yes, Remember all you need is a steady hand, patience to sit through Confessions of A Shopaholic and a rack of DVDs. Oh, and remember your fiver for the cinema.

This just confused me, I'm afraid. No idea what the joke is. Sorry.

The ending didn't push it enough, Rob.

Hopefully it sits better now.

Eh?

Oh wait, is this like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry gets considered an auteur for his pirate filming in the cinema?

What the hell are we waiting for?

I've not seen alot of Seinfeld, so haven't had the chance to see this episode - sounds good though.

I think the Carribean bit doesn't fit - unless the guy has a West Indian accent.

I changed it before you posted Dolly Huh?

Anyways, far better ending now. Clearer and funnier. Let me know what you think.

Ah, now it makes sense. Still not really for me though, I'm afraid.

lol. It wouldn't hurt to to just say it's brilliant Rob, it really wouldn't.

Thanks for the feedback Rob :)

I get it, but fail to see the joke.

Like yourself, I don't watch a lot of Seinfeld, but I did catch that one and it is very similar to your sketch. They did it brilliantly, as if Jerry was being hailed as the latest hot shot director in the pirate world - he was even planning three camera shoots.

Check it out if you can. I think your sketch could have ended with the Man in the Dark offering the Interviewer 3 DVDs for a tenner, with really crude cover art, to really hammer the point home.

It's a neat idea and if you can live with imitating the great Seinfeld might I humbly reccomend using some false starts.
E.g. steady cam style shaky camera work and a sense of mystery brought on by the screen being blocked by a mysterious stranger (popping out for a whizz).

I don't think your reveal is clear enough. The "shopaholic" reference seems like a red herring, and reference to "a rack of DVDs" also confused me. Would it be better to say "blank disks"? And don't you need to show him holding a camera at the end?

Just a few thoughts.

To be perfectly honest. It's not very good.

I don't get it.
At all.
