E. Twizzle.

It's late and I've had a few too many of the Rhinoceros Cordials so who knows about this one?

Funny? Too offensive? Rubbish?

BLACK AND WHITE SILENT SKETCH WITH THE FEEL OF A SILENT MOVIE COMPLETE WITH PLINKY PERILOUS/DRAMATIC PIANO MUSIC. SETTING IS CONTEMPORARY THOUGH.

Side of an A-Road. POV Female hitch hiker with thumb out.

A large old fashioned van approaches and she leans into the window. The driver has a Dick Dastardly moustache and top hat, he lecherously twirls the edges of his moustache and nods vigorously, smiling. She climbs in and the van pulls away and we change POV to the back of the van as it drives away where the ornate sign reads: E.Twizzle – Rapist. Purveyor of Fine Sexual Deviancy since 1922.

Summing a sketch up in one sentence can often show whether it's funny or not. I would sum up this sketch as "A woman gets into a van which is revealed to be driven by a rapist". I can't really see from where the humour arises.

That's a very interesting and I think valid point Ben, I certainly don't condone the subject matter but do think that comedy should have no taboos. That's not to say that makes my sketch any good. One of my favourite sketches in one from Jam where the indifferent parents get a call to say their child has been murdered and they ask the policeman to 'pop it in a cab'. To sum that up in a sentence using your method would not perhaps do it any favours but it is, for me, genius. That's not in any way justifying myself, maybe my sketch is just out of order and sick, I hope not. Either way, thanks for giving input, it's really appreciated.

I didn't mind it actually, nice and twisted.

I'm a huge Jam fan too! I didn't find this offensive, but I think it's too obvious a setup. A woman gets into a van with a fiendishly evil looking man and it turns out he is a fiendishly evil man.

Phew! That's good because that's certainly not what I wanted to do (offend). Your point is a good one though, I think in my mind he was kind of Terry Thomas-ish as oppose to evil but....oh I dunno! Thanks to you both though, Nigel and Ben.

Maybe if you reversed it and Peter Sutcliffe kill Penelope Pitstop?

I liked it, but then again I like the more edgey stuff.

He could be wearing a cape too?

'E. Twizzle- The capiest and rapiest and back door purveyor'

Comedy's weird - as I motor towards 30 I'm starting to get far more easily offended by stuff - maybe it's because with experience, you always meet people who bad stuff's happened to.

However, I think that sketch is excellent - really, really good.

Thanks guys, for all feedback. I do hope it's the right side of the line. Scotti, I think the cape goes in! Sooty, your ideas are always valued, Pitstop and Sutcliffe could be a whole sketch in itself!!
