I can kind of see you are going for a Royle Family vibe with your sitcom, the difference is though that as realistic as The Royle Family is, it still has jokes.

I can't identify any jokes in your scene.

I have no opinion about the use of dots.

I would however suggest you don't describe one of your central characters as being "stereotypical"

I think it's ok to use the dots sometimes. Say, if you have a reason for pauses in a convo.
But they should be used as sparingly as beats.

I very much enjoyed this thread btw. It kept me entertained. :)
