Ouch Page 2

Always remember Bob Monkhouse, who said "when I said I wanted to be a comedian, they laughed. Well, they're not laughing now."

Laughing out loud
Yes, but it was also more of a chance to use a genius line. ;)

Back on your feet, soldier!

Ouch right enough. Don't worry mate, I've punched my computer in the face 3 times already just reading my feedback in the critique section - I'm working out a move for when I get feedback from my first sitcom.

I'm thinking Bodyslam?

Head up buddy! :D

Oh and check out my new sig...

How long did it take to get a response from objective?
We recently sent something off to Ben Farrell at objective productions. He was recomended to us by a professional comedy writer who liked our stuff. However we're still waiting on a reply from objective.

Michael, nothing worth having ever comes easy.

Except nurses.

If someone doesn't like your writing, then they're probably a little simple.

I live by this. Alone.

Hi Rick, are you related to Leevil? The resemblance is uncanny!

Has there ever been a sitcom about failed/aspiring sitcom writers? Would it work? Could be done mockumentary-style, looking at a group of hopeful writers entering a sitcom writing competition (the winner gets their one made into a pilot), their hopes, fears, foibles, failings and relationships? Or was that pretty much covered in Extras?

It was pretty much covered by Seinfeld Season 4. Which Extras basically took off.

Oh yes. I loved the casting sessions, where George objected to being played by a short fat antsy guy. And the casting for Kramer, with the various actors doing the trademark awkward/unannounced entrance through the door.

EDIT: But that part of Seinfeld was about successful sitcom writers! I was thinking there might be humour in looking at aspiring writers who don't make the big time.

The last one I got said: "i just didn't find it funny, that's all."

Oh, that's all?...great. There ain't no response to that!

"i just didn't find it funny" is what he/she would say if he wanted to admit that it's only his preference, rather than there being anything inherently faulty with the writing.

Thanks for all your comments and encouragement, your right about one persons opinion, shame it had to be a harsh one.

I have invested in a stress ball as my computer can't take another hit, or it's back to the typewriter, and I can't stand the smell of Tip-Ex

Another no? Have they rejected your stuff before or is this literary agent sending them loads of stuff they're rejecting?

I sent some sketches about a year ago, didn't actually get a reply, but now I know.

Took two-three weeks, I sent the script through Michael Vine Associates, who kinldy said he would get it read for me, he also said this is only one persons opinion. A lady at Objective read my script. She produced a show called Ejeits.

Saskia. Not that I've had any contact with her, but she's listed on IMDB.

Didn't Mel Smith do something about being a failed writer - and there's that Radio4 one - Eddie someones world of something (not the exact title, you understand) - and I suppose Jack Dee is a failed comedian/writer (art imitating life).
In fact, I think you can safely assume it has been done - write what you know and all that!
;)

That was Colin's Sandwich.

Indeed. The market should be awash with bloody awful sitcom scripts about struggling sitcom writers.
